Who Are You Girl?

I had to laugh when I read today’s Daily Prompt:

Daily Prompt: Mix Tape Masterpiece

You make a new friend. Make them a mix tape (or playlist, for the younger folks) that tells them who you are through song.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us MUSIC.

That has been my mission, my goal so to speak.  I am a musician as many of you know.  God has opened doors for me to play every week at Janesville Apostolic Ministries in Janesville, WI with my husband, Bob.  We had a Church Dedication yesterday that was absolutely amazing. I’ll use another post for that.  Let’s just say Ms D had a blast singing and dancing!

I also write, sing, and record songs about breaking free from Domestic Violence.  Silent No More – that’s me.  Singing about what really goes on behind closed doors when you live in abuse.  Not to glorify what happened, but to raise awareness.  People don’t know what happens unless we tell them.  People can’t help the next woman out of abuse if they don’t know how or what to do next.

Here is my Bio from Broadjam:diana rasmussen

Diana is a Music Minister, Blogger, Poetess, and Recording Artist based in Southern WI. She has received many TOP 10 AWARDS from Broadjam, Inc. in the Jazz, Country, Folk, and World Categories.

Diana Rasmussen is a Soul Survivor. She plays live at the local coffee shops and leads the Worship Team every week at Janesville Apostolic Ministries. Her songs focus on overcoming adversity, breaking free from domestic violence, and living beyond depression. Fans have called her songs, “haunting, powerful, and edgy”. Diana sounds like Annie Lennox and Bonnie Raitt, and there is a raw honesty about her lyrics.

WALKING WOUNDED by Secret Angel and Diana Rasmussen

Mixed/Mastered by Chameleon

Diana (PrayersandPromises) and Secret Angel (Secretangelps911) met on WordPress. Having both come from a past of abuse, they have a lot in common. Secret Angel has written a book sharing her story, “THE WALKING WOUNDED”. Secret Angel wrote the poem “The Walking Wounded” and Diana put a portion of the poem to music. A portion of the proceeds of this song will benefit Secret Angel Ministry.

Diana is an established Singer/Songwriter and “Soul Survivor” with many TOP 10 Songs on the Indie charts at Broadjam, Inc. Diana has received many TOP 10 AWARDS from Broadjam, Inc. in the Country, Folk, Jazz, and World Categories.

Secret Angel’s book, “THE WALKING WOUNDED”, talks about how abuse happens and how victims become trapped in their situations. It brings understanding to the plight of victims as Secret Angel reveals her own true story, including how God intervened in her life and rescued her. “THE WALKING WOUNDED” is in publication currently and will be released in August of 2013, with a plan for the majority of proceeds to go into ministries that help victims of abuse.

Bride of Christ

Bride of Christ

We are the bride of Christ
He’s coming back for us
*
We will watch as
He avenges His Bride
As Justice comes to the earth
*
For a long time
He has held His peace
The Lord has restrained himself
Then like a woman giving birth
He will destroy all His enemies
*
The Son of Man
will send forth His angels
He’s The Lord of the Harvest
He separates the wheat from the tares
And His Kingdom will have no end
*
The righteous ones shine forth as the sun
In the Kingdom of their Father
*
When we pass thru the waters – They will not overflow us
When we pass thru the fire – we will  not be burned
Sealed with His Spirit – we are safe in His hands
*
Because He loves us
He has called us out by Name
We are created for His glory
And no one can take us from His hand

Daily Prompt: Thank You

Today I wanted to thank all those who have stopped by at my little “corner” of the World here at Prayers and Promises.  I am grateful for your presence. And I love to read about you and how you we are all growing stronger every day.  Some of the battles have yet to be won – yet I believe together we can accomplish much – with God’s help and direction. Thank you for listening, I really do appreciate all of your support.  I cannot tell you how much it means to me to have someone that actually listens to what I have to say.

You have helped me believe in myself again.

And the prayers you have prayed for me have been answered – I have such a peace today.

Thank you!

I pray God’s abundant peace and blessings to all of you, I love you all!

Diana

To help you relax today, I put this out at BandCamp.  You can listen for free, or buy too if you want to.  Thank you, for being there…

Do You Hear the Children Crying?

© 2013 Diana Rasmussen

Do you hear the children crying
As they scream up and down the halls?
They know daddy hits their mommy
and they watch her as she falls
*
They run to her side daily
till Daddy comes in the room
Then it’s time to run and hide
the next one’s coming soon
*
They say, “God please help my mommy
she needs you Lord today
cuz Daddy’s mad and I’m so sad
he says ‘she’s gonna pay’
*
Why God don’t you kill him?
just stop him in his tracks?
Protect us Lord, we need you now
before he starts to smack”
*
Finally Mommy dials 9-1-1
she made it to the phone
They take Daddy off to jail
and tell us now to run.

Defining Yourself – Identity

Daily Prompt: Name that… You!

Do you know the meaning of your name, and why your parents chose it? Do you think it suits you? What about your children’s names?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us IDENTITY.

Today I am no longer who I thought I was. I used to put all sorts of labels on myself. And I used to believe the labels that others put on me. NO MORE!  It was kind of funny, when the ‘light bulb’ went off for me.  I used to be depressed.  I used to take medicine and not get out of bed. And all day I would talk about how depressed I was to whoever would listen.  The more I talked about it the worse I felt. And then, in my eyes – I BECAME depression. Talk about a downer!  LOL!  Things only started to change for me when I kept my mouth shut and stopped repeating the negative words over myself.  I had to stop beating myself up with my words – especially when I looked in the mirror. And I had to start speaking positive words over myself – whether I liked it or not, whether I felt it or not.

Then, I had to learn the truth. Who does God say I am? Because obviously, I had no idea.  I gave my power away and let others define me – what a mistake.  No wonder I was an easy target for an Abuser.  He could tell me whatever he wanted to and I would believe it. And seriously, after hearing those words day in and day out for years – you get brainwashed into thinking they are true.  I won’t repeat those words – even here, but I am sure you have your own “words” that were spoken over you that were harmful.

I can testify that those words can be broken off – and turned into dust.  But you have to speak to your own mountain to get it to move.  Your body responds to your voice.  I encourage you to speak the WORD over your life – and watch and see what happens!  If you need those positive words – print this out and put it on your mirror:

THE FATHER’S LOVE LETTER

Today I let God define me, and what He says replaces the ‘labels’ that used to confine me.

We had another daily prompt like this one –  here is what ‘Diana’ means:
DIANA – means….

SNOW WHITE DARKNESS

© 2013 Diana Rasmussen

from: miasnow.wordpress.com
from: miasnow.wordpress.com

She looks in the mirror
seems vaguely familiar
like steam on the glass
shame covers her past

the fog slithers down
as evil surrounds
His worst fantasy
her reality

he pulls the strings
does unspeakable things
a sadistic entrance
for his acceptance

smothered by control
a tormented soul
trapped in his castle
her tears rolling mist
proof she exists
in snow white darkness

clouds of confusion
rolled into illusion
He veils perversion
forcing coercion

her body he takes
while she flies away
unbelievable
she’s invisible

love is the shadow
that darkens her window
she’s crying for help
to escape her hell

she hides in the fog
drinks hair of the dog
hates her behavior
craves one to save her

smothered by control
a tormented soul
trapped in his castle
her tears rolling mist
proof she exists
in snow white darkness

New Beginnings

Blog-land, a public place to share your private thoughts…who coulda thunk it?  I started Prayers and Promises as a place to share prayers and promises, and to testify about the goodness of God.  I have to say I have learned more from by brothers and sisters here than in many relationships I have had.  There is a freedom when you write – no constraints – I love it!   So, here’s a few pics that let me dance today.  God bless you all!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.

 Your thoughts—how rare, how beautiful!
God, I’ll never comprehend them!
I couldn’t even begin to count them—
any more than I could count the sand of the sea.
Oh, let me rise in the morning and live always with you!
And please, God, do away with wickedness for good!
And you murderers—out of here!—
all the men and women who belittle you, God,
infatuated with cheap god-imitations.
See how I hate those who hate you, God,
see how I loathe all this godless arrogance;
I hate it with pure, unadulterated hatred.
Your enemies are my enemies! (Psalm 139:12-22 MSG)

Under Your Shadow

When clouds of darkness surround me

Depression clings to me like a vine

If Hopelessness tries to find me

Under Your Shadow I’ll abide

I’m  weary, heavy laden, Everything is being shaken

fires are blazing,  my life is crazy

When fear washes over me

Like the waves in the sea

When my hopes crumble like sand

Under your shadow I’ll abide

When the Accuser starts his screaming

and lies hinder my believing

If the Destroyer tries to kill me

Under Your Shadow I’ll abide

I come and go like the tide

Your Love rescues me every time

Under Your Shadow I’ll Abide

Thanksgiving is Pouring out the Windows!

Daily Prompt: Dream Home

You win a contest to build your dream home. Draft the plans.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us DREAMS.

What a beautiful picture – thanksgiving pouring out the windows, and laughter spilling through the doorways. God is restoring our health and healing our wounds.  Sign me up – I’m in!

“Again, God’s Message:
“‘I’ll turn things around for Jacob.
I’ll compassionately come in and rebuild homes.
The town will be rebuilt on its old foundations;
the mansions will be splendid again.
Thanksgivings will pour out of the windows;
laughter will spill through the doors.
Things will get better and better.
    Depression days are over.
They’ll thrive, they’ll flourish.
The days of contempt will be over.
They’ll look forward to having children again,
to being a community in which I take pride.
I’ll punish anyone who hurts them,
and their prince will come from their own ranks.
One of their own people shall be their leader.
Their ruler will come from their own ranks.
I’ll grant him free and easy access to me.
Would anyone dare to do that on his own,
to enter my presence uninvited?’ God’s Decree.
“‘And that’s it: You’ll be my very own people,
I’ll be your very own God.’”

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE: NOSTALGIC

Nostalgic. Sometimes, we long for the past: for moments we want to remember or recapture. The good times. The golden years. Or perhaps we’re homesick, or longing for something — or someone — that might have been.

Remember these? My mom used to buy them and hide them in between the couch cushions. She was diabetic and they weren’t exactly in the diet. She’s in heaven now, eating all the peanuts she wants!
Love you mom, Diana
