Pursue Peace

We have been so blessed this month with visiting family. My brother came out from Nevada with his family for a week. And this week my brother in law from CA and my sister in law from MI are here. Now may I confess, we do not have the picture perfect family. There have been troubles and fights and disagreements. I have to confess that prayer changes things. When we knew they were coming to visit my husband and I started praying. “God open doors and open hearts to heal our family.” Can I tell you what? God answers prayer. And he did. Our time together was so blessed with one more gathering tonight for my father in laws 84th birthday.

Stuff doesn’t matter, money doesn’t matter – it’s the people that we have in our lives that are the best treasure here on earth.

Thank you Jesus for healing hearts and opening doors!

Where Do You Find Hope?

Hope – it was the number one word searched for in Google in 2014. We are all looking for Hope. She is friends with PEACE and JOY too. Once you are with those three, anything can happen! Here is a video I made a while back when I was searching for HOPE. Guess what? I found her!

Spring Training #2 – Making Our Money Work for Us

Spring TrainingLast time we talked about exercising our faith by honoring our bodies in SPRING TRAINING #1 – HONORING OUR BODIES. Today I would like to focus on another area that I personally am working on and that is how to make our money work for us.  I admit it, I have been ignorant in this area. No class in High School or College prepared me for how to manage money. Yes, I can balance a checkbook, and input numbers for a profit/loss statement, but how to manage the everyday flow of it? No way.  Good news though – we are never too old to learn.

 

 

This past weebooks on moneyk I went to the library and got myself some advice from the experts, Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman. These are two that are well known for their ability to teach others how to make our money work for us. I started reading and I have to admit I am learning already. I have had a ‘hands-off’ approach to money. I hate it. And we have been living paycheck-to-paycheck for years. It’s stressful. We have had late fees and overdrafts. It’s humiliating. There has to be a better way. God did not call us to lack any good thing. So here I am, learning how to manage money – Hallelujah!

 

The first book I started with was Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace”. He got me right away when in Chapter One he says:

“This is ridiculous,” I murmered. “Only in America could you drive a Jaguar and not have the money to put gas in it.”  I wondered where the arrogant young man from a few years ago was. There I stood in the cold, a man in my twenties, knowing I was in the process of losing virtually everything I owned.

Yes, Yes, Yes, I can relate to this!  I am still reading FINANCIAL PEACE, so I may add to this post later, lol!

SPRING TRAINING #2 – TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR MONEY

 

1.  Admit that we have been in denial about our money.

We have not been active in managing our money. Our bank fees and overdrafts speak to our inactivity to look at, plan an attack, and conquer our goals in this area of our lives

 

2.  Seek out help from those who have mastered this skill.

We may not have had the training or skills to master money. That’s ok. We can start today. Today can be the day we take our heads out of the sand and learn to manage what God has given us.

 

3. Be willing to sacrifice

There is nothing more humbling that writing down everything you spend your money on. I know I have done it. Seriously, I had no idea I spent so much on ______. (fill in the blank). But the truth is the truth. And once we know, we can make intelligent choices on what to do next.

 

4. Make a plan

We have to be willing to look forward, past today, past the week, and plan what we would like to do with our money. I would love a vacation. We didn’t even go on a honeymoon. I would love to save for that. What about you?

 

5. Work the plan

Change happens when we are willing to go through the rough parts, the ugly parts and keep going. Take baby steps. Review your progress daily. Persevere my friends, it will be worth it.

 

6. Reward yourself for achieving your little goals.

Pay off the little credit cards and debts first (yes that’s what Dave says). Start to build momentum. Keep track, make a bulletin board or whatever, but make it visual and mark off when you accomplish paying off a debt. Celebrate!

 

7. Enjoy being a good servant of God!

God gave us our talents. He asked us to go multiply them. Whether you believe talents are money or what gifts you have been given He asks us to multiply both. Being ignorant and doing nothing is like burying our money and expecting it to grow. I don’t know about you, but I for one am ready for change. I can’t wait to hear, “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”

I can tell you when my husband and I said these verses out loud, money that was delayed for over a month was suddenly paid. There is power in the Name and Blood of Jesus. Print yourself out a copy. This ministry has 2 churches in Spain and one in Nigeria.

A Verse in my Head

I woke up this morning and Holy Spirit gave me some breakfast.

“This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Guess He knew I would need that today. Especially after:

  • The coffee pot wouldn’t brew. I am really cranky without my morning coffee – just ask my husband. But my response, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” 
  • The light burns out in the bathroom and you try to pee using your phone for a light. P.S. not a great idea! My response, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” 
  • My son got hit in the head and had to come home early from school. I was an hour away. My response, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” 
  • My husband finished his job early and was able to pick up my son from school. My response, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” 
  • The transmission died on our old van. My response, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” 
  • We got to go pay $121 for new spark plugs on a van that doesn’t work. And just got an oil change and new wipers too. My response, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Good or bad, God knew I would need that Word today. No matter what happened I reminded myself of that verse. It gave me strength when I had none. Thank you Holy Spirit. And thank you for listening. You all give me such hope to pick myself up and carry on. I know that the Word of God is living. I ate it all day. And thank you Jesus for my manna from Heaven!

Hippie Politics

Thought I would have fun with this one.  Laugh or cry right? Politics is one of those ‘taboo’ subjects, just like religion.  Seems it stirs everyone up, especially if you see things differently. I am glad God likes flavors.  On another forum I was reading about music and politics. Quite a strange mix. Yet we all have an opinion and are passionate about it.  Reminded me of the 60’s.  I was only a child – yet I still remember the movement for freedom and peace. Finding Peace in the Silence

There is a peace in silence. Have you been there? To the place where there is no noise. Not that easy these days is it? I took a web free vacation this past weekend and didn’t post a thing. Yep, time for some R & R with no internet.   I have to say, I miss those days.  I mean, I love you all, and I love reading your posts as you pour out your hearts – that I missed. But do you remember the days before Google, before Smartphones, and before the Internet?

I don’t think our kids get to experience that.  They talk on the phone, message, snap-chat, instagram, FB, etc – everything is online whether you want it there or not.  And I have heard so many horror stories about how people are finding out about personal family issues online. I know, it happened to me too.

How can we value privacy when we don’t have any?

How can we hear God if we don’t listen?be still

Peace in the Storm

rain35Peace in the Storm.  Do you like storms? I remember sitting on the porch with my mom and watching the storms. The lightning, the thunder, the rain.  I love the smell of the rain.  They are so pretty to watch – when you are in a safe place.

 

But what if you are stuck in the middle of the storm?  Have you ever had to pull over in the car because you couldn’t see? Sit and wait for the storm to pass? It wasn’t so fun then. When you are stuck in the middle – with nowhere to go.

What to do with Peace

OK, so we have made it through the trial. We have been in the fire of affliction and have come out and we didn’t even smell like smoke.  Then comes the peace.  Peace that started when we were in the furnace.  Peace that makes absolutely no sense.  Just knowing that God was with us in that furnace and we were not alone made all the difference.  We surrendered to His will and His way in the furnace – or in the desert – or in the pit – or at the end of the land with an ocean in front of us.  Hallelujah – we made it.  But now what?

Have you ever felt this way?  I think I am so used to chaos and things going wrong that I have to admit – peace is a bit unnerving. It is so quiet!  Now I am not complaining – I rather like it quiet.  I have given myself permission to move out of the past and into my promised land and it’s rather exciting.  There is a world of opportunities awaiting us and I’m not really sure what to do next.  Lead us Lord – don’t stop now!

God’s Word for You:

Peace and Hope

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Dear Lord,

Thank you – for meeting us in the fire of affliction and leading us out.  Thank you that just by Your presence things change.  Thank you for this new peace – we know it is a gift from you. Let us relax and just relish it – as you are still right here with us.  Thank you, that for today, we can just ‘be’ here with You.

Divine Direction

Divine Direction. That’s what I want. A GOD GPS. Sign me up. Turn right on Salvation street. Pass by Heartache Ave. and Betrayal Blvd.

Have you ever Googled an address and ended up in the middle of a cornfield? I can’t tell you how many times this happened to me and my husband trying to get to a job. Most of the time it was a new customer, and we don’t want to be late. But naturally, those are the days when you are running behind anyway, type in the address in GPS, and end up on what might as well be another planet. Has this ever happened to you?

Then I call the customer, he or she laughs, and says, yeah that happens all the time. You really want to scream and punch their lights out at that point, but you smile, and ask directions on how to get there from where you are at.

Humility. Admitting I really don’t know and I am confused and lost at the moment. Not always the easiest thing to swallow that pride and ask for help. Yet, without help, we are lost. And will never get to our destination.

I was reading a blog the other day and commented that I wish I knew the answers. I wish I knew what to do when and how to fix it. Then life would be easy. I would just do it, and be done with it. And I wouldn’t have to trust anyone to help me.

But then God reminded me. I couldn’t do this journey alone – I tried. And fell flat on my face. And I was lonely and misrable and wanted to end it all. Yeah, that wasn’t the best road. So I asked Him for help. I admitted I was lost and didn’t know my way. I admitted I really didn’t KNOW Him, I knew about Him, but I didn’t know Him. And I didn’t know how to get there from where I was.

I may not have all the answers today. I really don’t know how some things are going to turn out. I am pressed but not crushed, persecuted but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed. But today, I know HIM – and I trust Him, and that is enough for me.

Can I say that was the beginning of my love affair? He is faithful, He is true, He is loving, and kind, and encourages me. He lifts my head and gives me hope when I want to quit. He rejoices over me with singing and calls me the Apple of His Eye. He calls me Beloved – even when I don’t feel that way.  And His love is greater than all of my failed directions, hands down.

He even has my name engraved on the palms of His hands.

And guess what?

I saw your name there too…
