Formerly a worm
Crawling on the ground
Now inside cocoon
Change is coming soon

Inside chrysalis
Old dead ways cast off
New things being born
Hanging on this thorn

Wings unfolding light
Transforming even mind
Beauty now flies free
Releasing Heavenly Peace

God’s Word for You:

“This is what God says,
the God who builds a road right through the ocean,
who carves a path through pounding waves,

The God who summons horses and chariots and armies—
they lie down and then can’t get up;
they’re snuffed out like so many candles:

“Forget about what’s happened;
don’t keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new.
It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?
There it is! I’m making a road through the desert,
rivers in the badlands.

Wild animals will say ‘Thank you!’
—the coyotes and the buzzards—
Because I provided water in the desert,
rivers through the sun-baked earth,

Drinking water for the people I chose,
the people I made especially for myself,
a people custom-made to praise me.”
(Isaiah 43:16-21 MSG)

My Prayer for You:

Dear Lord,

Thank you for making all things new, even us. Renew our minds, refresh our spirit, and restore our bodies as only You can, in Jesus Name.

Prayers and Promises – a poem from domestic violence

I wrote this poem to share what it feels like to go to church on a Sunday morning when you are living in domestic violence. Oftentimes the abuser likes to play up how spiritual he is so he can use God’s word to justify what he does. The abuser will take the Word and twist it to batter his wife with. Seriously. Many times Pastors just give the Abuser more ammunition when they cram messages on the husband’s authority down our throats. The Abuser loves that. Now he gives himself permission to do whatever he wants to his wife, and uses God and the Pastor’s word as justification. He’s the King right? And we are supposed to submit and obey right girls? Yeah, that was fun. Thanks so much. So glad I could come.

As a victim, we know how to smile and tell everyone everything is “fine”. But do you see it in our eyes? We are screaming on the inside for someone to see. For someone to take us aside and listen to what is really going on. But “he” knows and “he” won’t let us talk to anyone without standing right beside us. No talking, no telling – that’s the rule. Or it gets worse when we get home.

Prayers and Promises

I come to you today
I’m sitting in this pew
Looking for answers
And a life made new

Do I tell you what happens
When I make it home?
I’m a prisoner of war
Behind his locked door

Can you give me a prayer?
Can you give me a promise?
Something to hold onto
in the middle of chaos

You see Mr Jekyll
All smiles and lies but
He twists what you say
To get his own way

Starting tonight I know
The accusations start
When I run and hide
Because he’s Mr. Hyde

Can you give me a prayer?
Can you give me a promise?
Something to hold onto
in the middle of chaos

Renew my mind
Restore my hope
Show me your grace
Rebuild this broken place

Prayers and promises
Of what will someday be
Lord, help me to see
Things can change someday

Profile of an Abuser/Batterer

1. Jealousy (questioning her constantly about whereabouts, and jealous of time she spends away from him).

2. Controlling behavior (I’ve had clients who’s victim couldn’t get a job, leave the house or bathe without his permission)

3. Isolation (Makes partner move away from family and friends so that she depends on him solely for support.)

4. Forces her to have sex against her will (I’ve had several clients who forced their partners to have sex with their friends and forces sex when she is asleep.)

5. Holds very rigid gender roles (Believes that her job is just to cater to him, he is the “king of the castle.”)

That Ugly Stick is Not Love

I found this poem in my journals from a while ago. I wrote it after coming out of a bad relationship. Sometimes I think I learn what is from what isn’t. Does that make sense? Love was one of those things. I had lots of people tell me they loved me, but their actions did not match. And neither did mine.

When you are starved for love sometimes you take the first thing that comes along. Just because you are starving. It might be that first boyfriend who tells you he loves you just to have sex. It might be that first job where you find yourself working for a boss with shady integrity. When you are starving you just want to eat. It doesn’t matter what.

I would ask the Body of Christ to put down the “ugly” stick and the magnifying glass. It’s time we stopped hurting each other and magnifying each other’s shortcomings and sin. There are people dying out there…

Looking For A Palm Tree

Palm tree (Photo credit: F H Mira)

Living in the cold of WI this winter I am dreaming of palm trees and white sand beaches, warm tropical breezes and maybe even a little umbrella. It’s going to be so cold here Governer Scott Walker is thinking of shutting down all the schools in WI with windchill expected to be -45 to -55. And I hear there are still tickets to the Packer Game on Sunday with temps only expected to be -30 with the windchill!

Here is a song I wrote with my husband Bob last night. I think I need steel drums, give it that Jamaica sound! I love reggae music, how about you? I’m going to have to learn to play it though, the beat is totally different than what I am used to!

My prayer for you this Christmas
Is to receive what Christ has done
A baby born in a manger
Has come to save everyone

Let your sorrow be turned to joy
Let your ashes be turned to beauty
When Christ is born inside your heart
Even the Angels in Heaven sing

Open your heart to receive Him
Let the Love of God rush in
Unwrap the Gift of His Presence
Receive comfort, joy, and peace

Dear Lord,

I pray that Your Presence would be made manifest as You are still born anew in hearts today.  Thank you Lord, that You love us, and You came to save us.  We open the gift of Your Presence, Your Holy Spirit in our hearts today.  We open the door to the new things You are doing in us and through us.  We rejoice in Your Glory, Glory to God in the Highest and peace on Earth to men!

Thank you Lord, that You are the Author of Life and we trust You to be born anew in our hearts, our minds, and our bodies, in Jesus Name.  Rejoice, for unto you is born a Savior, Christ the Lord! Have a blessed day my friends, and Merry Christmas!

Love you all!

7 Ways to Beat Depression During the Holidays

Holidays may bring upon an old “friend” – Depression.  Sometimes we have unrealistic expectations of what Holidays should be. Increased stress, increased commitments, and just the hustle and bustle of running around can be overwhelming.

7 WAYS TO BEAT DEPRESSION AND THE HOLIDAYS

1.  Be easy on yourself, admit that this is a stressful time for all of us.
2.  Schedule your trips to go shopping, write them down.  That way they do not get to live ‘rent free’ in your head.  Having a plan always reduces stress.
3.  Ask for help.  You do not have to get everything done in one day.  Let others in your family contribute, this will help you and them as well.
4.  Be realistic.  Set a budget and stick to it.  Try your best.  Overspending will only lead to more stress in the long haul.
5. Decide ahead of time what Holiday gatherings you will attend – and give yourself permission to say no.  You don’t have to be the life of the party everywhere you are invited!
6. Might want to give yourself a break from the diet until after the Holidays.  Really.  It’s ok, you can pick up after the first of the year.
7.  Enjoy yourself.  Don’t let the bad attitude of others, the road rage or the shopping rage rub off on you.  Keep your joy, and your peace this year!

I had to repost this one =- it was the only post that did not make the move to my new home here.  And I wouldn’t want you to miss it.  Nashville Joe is one of the best!  And I just found the video thanks to Penny Towers and Peter of PGO Media!

Peace – we all want it.  But what is it?

Full Definition of PEACE

1:  a state of tranquillity or quiet: as

:  freedom from civil disturbance
:  a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom <a breach of the peace>

2:  freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions

3:  harmony in personal relations

4   a :  a state or period of mutual concord between governments

:  a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity

5—used interjectionally to ask for silence or calm or as a greeting or farewell

— at peace

:  in a state of concord or tranquillity

(“Peace.” Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 5 Dec. 2013.)

Yeah, that is one way to look at it.  But I believe there is more.  Peace is more than a state of harmony, more than a freedom from war.

I believe Peace is a Person – Jesus Christ.

There can be NO PEACE without Him.

Would You Love Them For Me Anyway?

Would You Love Them For Me Anyway?

© 2013 Diana Rasmussen

As I sit and wonder,
what this thing of Love is.
And why it costs so much
just to give it away.

God gently reminds me.
it cost Him something too.
His Son Jesus Christ
died to save me from my sins.

As I look at those around me
full of anger, fear, and strife.
He asks me quite slowly
“Would you love them for Me, anyway?”

I say, “But God they don’t want it,
they run and they hide.
My love goes unanswered,
and so I ask why?”

He says it’s His job to change them,
Not mine as I thought.
My only task it’s quite clear,
is to love them, anyway.

He says once again with a smile on His face,
“Watch what I do with it,
this Love covered with Grace.
They can run but they can’t hide
from Me, I’m on the inside!”

So I resign my arguments,
give up my controlling behavior,
trusting Him to do it best.
And I’ll just love them, anyway.

For you see, that’s His child
buried deep in the mud.
And God lives inside of them,
even though they don’t know it yet.

I reach out my hand, help them up.
And show them how much
God loves them right where they are.
and I’ll love them, anyway.

Childhood Revisited – Hell on Earth

DAILY PROMPT:

Sure, you turned out pretty good, but is there anything you wish had been different about your childhood? If you have kids, is there anything you wish were different for them?

One thing I would change – no more rapes or abuse of women. No more hurting children who end up as wounded wives and mothers. Only Jesus, love, healing, peace and forgiveness.  End of story.

HELL ON EARTH

2012 Diana Rasmussen

A story of a girl who was abused and raped, and the healing Jesus provides…

She was only a child, she tried to tell him no,
But he would not listen, a part of her he stole.
She felt used and dirty, couldn’t wash away the stains.
She bottled up her emotions, and buried her pain.

She would smile on the outside,
but she was dying on the inside,
She knew sorrow and shame.
She’d been through hell on earth.

She turned to drugs and razors, tried to cut the pain away.
Went from lover to lover, but no one could fill that place.
Jesus met her in her anguish,  He carried away her sorrow.
In His eyes, she was blameless, an innocent child again.

She would smile on the outside,
but she was dying on the inside,
She knew sorrow and shame.
She’d been through hell on earth.

Jesus said, “I saw what He did to you;
nothing is hidden from His gaze.
And I AM coming back soon,
I’ll avenge your enemies.”

cuz, she’d been through hell on earth.

GOD’S PROMISE TO YOU:

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). (John 10:10 AMP)

The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted,  The God Who avenges me and subdues peoples under me, Who delivers me from my enemies; yes, You lift me up above those who rise up against me; You deliver me from the man of violence(Psalm 18:46-48 AMP)

If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for [God’s] wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay (requite), says the Lord. (Romans 12:18-20 AMP)

My Prayer for You:

Dear Lord,

I know that there are many who have been wounded and hurt by wicked, evil men.  I know that You are good, and You did not want them to be hurt – what those men did was wrong.   I know You give every person the choice to choose good or evil, and that some men choose evil.  I thank you Lord, that I can trust you to deal with these evil people, because You promised to take care of it.  I trust in You, my hope is in You, and I cannot hold onto this hate anymore.  I give them (all of them) and my hate to You Lord.  Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.

And Lord, I would ask that you protect, heal, and deliver all the women that have been hurt, raped, or abused, in the mighty Name of Jesus.
