God Did Not Save You to Tame You

You have passion. You have purpose. You were created for such a time as this.

‘God did not save you to take you.” – Lisa Bevere

God is the Author of passion. He is the Author is purpose. He put it in. You. Now what do you do with it?

I started reading Lisa Bevere’s book LIONESS ARISING. She has a wonderful way of opening up my eyes to the bigger picture. It’s not always about us and our little life. We were made to carry the light of God into the darkness. We are carriers of hope, and joy, and peace. We are created to bring change to our world.

What will you do with what God gave you?

I find myself asking myself the same question. Guess that’s why I’m reading the book, lol! I wish I could say I know why I am here and what I am supposed to be doing. Most days I feel like I am on autopilot doing my day to day stuff. It’s ok, but I know there has to be more than this. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for my life and my family. I am blessed. I love my life.

But there are Wind Whispers from God showing me there is more. There is a way more. I’m hungry, I’m thirsty. I want to see it!

Lord, give us a fresh revelation of your God story and how we can carry Your light and love into this fallen world.

Revelation 2:7

“Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. I’m about to call each conqueror to dinner. I’m spreading a banquet of Tree-of-Life fruit, a supper plucked from God’s orchard.”

Your Story Matters – Blog it!

Your story matters. It may not seem so right now. But you are not the only one going through it, that’s for sure. One of the the things I really like about blogging is that you get to meet people all over the world who may be going through the exact same situation.

When I blog about depression, I get to meet others who are in the battle and learn what worked for them to kick out the blues. When I write about my past domestic violence situations I get wisdom from others who have made it out alive. When I write about finding hope in God I get to meet others who have found Him faithful and true. We are a tribe of men, women, and children who share our hearts with people we have never met. I love it!!!

tribe

I am more honest on my blog than I am with people sometimes. It’s really easy to pour your heart out when you just type whatever you think. There is a freedom in that. Your heart, your feelings, your hopes, dreams, failures – it is really addicting! It’s a total no judgement zone.

Do you blog?

What do you blog about?

Why do you blog?

I read my about page today – funny how you write that page and forget about it. It helped me remember why I do this:

My Purpose – To overcome adversity, thrive, and live an abundant life

My Mission – To encourage and teach others how to rise above their circumstances, enlarge their vision, and soar to new heights with God

My Calling – To use words and music to find and share hope is this crazy world

What about you? What is your vision? Do you have a dream? A calling?

I encourage your to write it down. It’s real then. It helped me focus on why I do what I do. It gives me vision. Without vision the people perish I read…

Plus, it’s really funny to read something you wrote like 3 years ago and totally forgot about. Blogging gives me perspective – on how far I have come, what I have overcome, and how faithful God is to His promises!

7 Steps on How to Stop Treading Water and Set a Goal

Have you ever watched a person tread water? Moving those arms and legs furiously but never really getting anywhere? It’s exhausting just to watch.  I mean with all that effort shouldn’t they bee halfway across the ocean by now?  Yet, this is exactly how I feel right now.  Like I have been treading water for years getting nowhere.

Then I realized why. I had given up on setting goals. I had given up even trying to get anywhere. And just like that swimmer, after my energy was gone I sank. Right in the spot where I had worked so hard for so long.  How about you?  Have you ever given up on goals?

I’m not sure when it started. It’s like when does water really start to boil? When the water first gets hot, or is it at the first bubble, or do you need a bunch of rolling bubbles to call it boiling? Either way it is hot! And either way I just quit doing it.

“A person without a goal is like a swimmer just treading water.  You use up all your effort and energy and get nowhere.”

– Diana Rasmussen of Prayers and Promises

7 Steps on How to Stop Treading Water

and Set a Goal:

  1. Stop using up all your energy on useless things. Stop beating yourself up over the past. Stop waiting for others to do what you think they should do. Stop treading water.

  2. Pray and ask God to open your eyes to what He has for your future. Get a bigger picture of the ocean than the pool you call life.

  3. Be open to change. Change isn’t easy – but it will be worth it. God promised us all an abundant life – let’s be done settling. Wouldn’t you rather swim in the ocean anyway?

  4. Look for new opportunities to swim in other places and further than you have before. There are plenty of bodies of water to explore.  There is way more than the kiddie pool in your back yard.

  5. Focus your energy on moving forward, not turning back.  It is much easier to do the breast stroke forward than the backstroke backwards. Some people spend their whole life looking backwards and living in condemnation and regret. Set your vision ahead my friends. The Son is rising upon you – He has called you out of the boat!  It’s time to start this water walking stuff!

  6. . Take a deep breath and think of one goal and write it down. What is your vision for your life? What is your calling? What is your purpose?  Take 5 minutes right now and write it down somewhere. Anywhere. Even a napkin if you have to! Here is mine – About Me. (P.S.  I have been writing for 4 years now and I just wrote this today, lol!)

  7. Get back in the water. It’s really hard to swim on land. Now straighten out your body, take the first stroke forward, and kick your feet. Trust that the rest of you will follow. Yes, God did make these bodies to swim and even float and walk on water! And like Dory says:

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.

So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it. – Philippians 3:12-16 MSG

God Will Rescue You From the Pit

This morning I had a vision. I was in a deep dark pit, similar to Joseph. Yeah, after his so-called brothers threw him in there. Tormented by family. They were driven by jealousy. Blinded by their own insecurities. Joseoh was thrown to the enemy to die – by family. Yeah, been there. You?

Genesis 37:24 Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it.

Have you ever felt like your brothers or sisters (by blood or church) threw you in the pit with their laughter at your circumstances? Ever been trampled by their so-called superiority? Me too. It hurt.
Yet God has bigger plans. God is mighty to save.

I could see the black walls of mud around me and no matter how hard I tried to climb out by myself, I kept sliding down the mud walls. Darkness of despair everywhere. But that is exactly where God showed up.

In the next instant I was standing outside of the pit and l looked up to see the vastness of the night sky filled with stars. I was free! Next I saw the fullness of the Galaxy and all of God’s creation. God is greater and the Creator of all things. And He is more than able to deliver us!

And like Joseph, I pray for my brothers and sisters regardless of what they did or didn’t do. I pray they have a fresh revelation of the love of the Father. Melt their hearts with your goodness God, in Jesus Name! Give them many treasures in their sacks! For what they meant for evil God has used for good.

Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth—Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the Lord.

This World is Not Our Home

This world is NOT our home. It is not supposed to be all comfortable and cozy here. No wonder I felt like I never fit in here. Always like an outsider looking in through a glass window.

God had given us a Heavenly Assignment here. We are Ambassadors and Ministers of Reconciliation. Enlarge your vision today my friends! We are chosen and loved and are doing the will of the Father while we travel on!

John 17:16-19 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

Stop Weeding the Thistles

Stop weeding the thistles? Really?  I had this illustrated to me just this week. Guess I needed to hear it twice in order to sink in lol!

MY LESSON IN THISTLES #1

This is a picture of our garden – well, what was supposed to be our garden. This year ‘life’ happened and we never got a chance to plant it. Oh well. Life is good. So we are giving the land a rest I guess.

For Mother’s Day my two youngest gave me a lavender plant. I would love to raise lavender and plant a whole field of it. So I went to the library and did some research. It does grow here in WI, but it is kind of picky about soil. Anyway, about a month ago I took the small potted plant and put it up in the garden area. I thought hey, it will sink or swim, right? I didn’t go check it. I didn’t even go water it. God – if you want it to grow, it will grow. I left it alone for about a month, well ok, two.

Two days ago I went to see if it made it or not. I really wasn’t expecting it to grow. After all, I didn’t do anything to help it. Can you imagine my surprise when I saw this?

Dont pull the thistles

Not only had it grown it had tripled in size! Despite all the thistles growing around it. Despite all my lack of attention – it still grew! I guess God really does know how to make things grow – even when I don’t cooperate!

MY LESSON IN THISTLES #2

We have these hostas that we got from my mother-in-law about 8 years ago. When I first got married, we planted JAM Buildingsome at our church, then it was Summit Baptist. Bob and I got married at that church a while back too. We fed and watered them while we went there. Long story short, the Pastor left to go to another church in TX, and the church closed. It was vacant for 3 years. Bob and I moved to another town, and hooked up with some old friends and started with JAM (Janesville Apostolic Ministries) about a year ago. Another long story, short – JAM bought the old Summit Baptist Building. Yeah – really!

And guess what – the hostas were still there. Again, they have been ignored for at least 3 years. They were very overgrown with weeds so the boys thought they would kill the weeds. They bought the spray stuff and sprayed around the hostas. Some of the weed killer leeched in the soil and some of the good hostas died. And many were damaged.  All because we were trying to kill the weeds.  Overkill the weeds and the good ones get hurt too.

I wonder how that applies to us and our church family? Hmmmm…I remember a good book and a great story…

Hostas

He told another story. “God’s kingdom is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. That night, while his hired men were asleep, his enemy sowed thistles all through the wheat and slipped away before dawn. When the first green shoots appeared and the grain began to form, the thistles showed up, too.

“The farmhands came to the farmer and said, ‘Master, that was clean seed you planted, wasn’t it? Where did these thistles come from?’

“He answered, ‘Some enemy did this.’

“The farmhands asked, ‘Should we weed out the thistles?’

“He said, ‘No, if you weed the thistles, you’ll pull up the wheat, too. Let them grow together until harvest time. Then I’ll instruct the harvesters to pull up the thistles and tie them in bundles for the fire, then gather the wheat and put it in the barn.’”  (Matthew 13: 24-30 MSG)

MY LESSON LEARNED:

Stop weeding the Thistles Diana.

Stop worrying about all the people in your life that are bristly and not doing what they should be doing.

God has this under control.

It is His garden girl.

He is the Master Gardener.

Jesus is the vine.

God gets to weed His own garden.

It is not my job to weed them out.

Trust God and focus on the lavender – it will bloom, and you will get 30,60, 100 times over in the harvest.

Thank you Jesus!

Clearing Your Vision

visionVision. I don’t believe vision is just sight.  It is not just what the Eye Dr. says.  Not just what we see in the natural with our eyes.  I have to admit, if I only looked in the natural I would have stayed depressed! I had to learn to step back and look through my faith – not my eyes, to see.  God has promises that better things are coming.  He has told us that He has a plan for us, not to harm us, but for a better future.  And He promised that all things would work out together for our good.  I don’t need to know all the answers today.  I can choose to trust that He has it worked out, and He will make a way for me when I can’t see.  God is still on the throne and He will light up any and all darkness – He promised!

” Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1 NKJV)

I think that when we look at things with God’s help our vision is clearer.  When God speaks to us we can see! And I also have to watch the ‘voices’ that I listen to.  Not every voice is clear.  Not every voice has my best interest in mind.  Not every voice will help me grow closer to God.  these last 3-4 days of the New Year I have been practicing my ‘no’.  I will not entertain every voice that comes my way.  I will not repeat something that does not ring true.  I will search out and seek God, His voice, and listen as He gives me vision.

This happened to Cornelius too. This gave me hope, that God hears our prayers, helps us to see clearly, and answers us.Gods Masterpiece

God’s Word for You:

Cornelius Sends a Delegation

“There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,  a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always.  About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!”

And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?”

So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.  Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.  He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.[a] He will tell you what you must do.” And when the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually. So when he had explained all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa.” (Acts 10:1-8 NKJV)

My Prayer for You

Dear Lord,

I ask you to clear our vision.  Take away the things that blind us like our disbelief.  Quiet the voices that are not from You. Clear the clouds, send the rainbows, and open our eyes to see You as you really are, in Jesus Name.

Remember that old song, I Can See Clearly Now the Rain is Gone? Here is Johnny Nash singing it live on the Midnight Show in 1973. Gotta love that jacket! Talk about a blast from the past!

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
It’s gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin’ day.
It’s gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin’ day.

Oh yes, I can make it now the pain is gone.
All of the bad feelings have disappeared.
Here is the rainbow I’ve been praying for.
It’s gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin’ day.

Look all around, there’s nothing but blue skies.
Look straight ahead, there’s nothing but blue skies. (Ies)

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Here’s the rainbow I’ve been praying for.
It’s gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin’ day.
It’s gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin’ day.
Real, real, real, real bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin’ day.
Yeah, hey, it’s gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin’ day.

Hard to see?

Hard to See?

It’s often hard to see
the forest through the trees
Though blind as I may be
Touch my eyes to see
Lord I need your mercy
Shine your light on me

God’s Promise to You:

Jesus Heals a Blind Man

They arrived at Bethsaida. Some people brought a sightless man and begged Jesus to give him a healing touch. Taking him by the hand, he led him out of the village. He put spit in the man’s eyes, laid hands on him, and asked, “Do you see anything?”

He looked up. “I see men. They look like walking trees.” So Jesus laid hands on his eyes again. The man looked hard and realized that he had recovered perfect sight, saw everything in bright, twenty-twenty focus. Jesus sent him straight home, telling him, “Don’t enter the village.” (Mark 8:22-26 AMP)

My Prayer for you:

Dear Lord,

Sometimes we get lost in the details, and can’t seem to see or understand what to do next.  Sometimes our vision is clouded by our past experiences, past wounds, regrets, traumas, or abuse.  We need you to touch our eyes Lord, like you did this man in the story.  Things are cloudy, and fuzzy, and we want to see.  Restore our vision Lord, give us wisdom, peace, and give us sight – to see ourselves and our future through your eyes, in Jesus Name.
