God Will Light Up the Darkness for You

I love candles. I love the light, the smell, the whole ambiance of candles. A candle can light up the whole room with brightness. So can the sunlight. It will flood over the darkness and cast it out. Just like that it is gone. God is like that too.  Jesus has said that He was the light of the world. Where Jesus is, there is light and love.

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” – John 8:12 NLT

I have to remember this when walking through the valley of trouble. God is with me.  He will light up the darkness and make a way where there is no way.  His presence alone will bring me new opportunities and new life and healing.

Rest my friend, knowing that the Lord of all the Earth will turn your darkness into light – He promised!

darktolight

Here is what I am meditating on this week, when I face more tests and stuff at the Doctor for an issue that has come to light. I know that Jesus is my Healer and He is faithful to fulfill His promises. May the peace and presence of God flood over you this week and turn your darkness into light!

Thank you to all of our Veterans. Your honor and sacrifice is noble and we would not be free without your protection. We salute you today and always, you are our HEROS and SHE-ROS!

Why is Veterans Day on November 11th each year? According to Wikipedia:

Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans; that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954

12 Quotes on Being Thankful

November brings a chill to the air. Falling leaves, colder weather, apple cider, and Thanksgiving. As the seasons change in the natural and the spiritual, I have to remind myself to be thankful and enjoy the journey. It has not been an easy year for myself and my family. There have been many challenges. Yet through them all, God has been faithful and true. He is with us in the fire of affliction, just like He was with those 3 boys Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

So today,  let’ s take a moment to stop, breathe, and trust God – and thank Him for never leaving us. God is with us! We will make it through this!

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV

Quotes on Jezebel and Her Critical Spirit

We all have met the “Know it All” spirit – at work, at home, at church. Doens’t matter. That person has no room to listen, no room to grow, no room for anyone else other than themselves and their big egos. They are critical of everyone and everything. In their eyes, you can never do anything right. Have you met him/her?

Me too. It’s exhausting. Just when you do what they ask, they change the rules. You thought you were helping and they meet you with criticism, and tell you how you did it all wrong. They turn the tables on you, especially if someone else is in the room, and make you think you are losing your mind.

This is a spirit of Jezebel – the spirit of control. They criticize others and mock other people just to feel better about themselves. They feed on gossip and can’t wait to spread the news. Be careful who you trust, and  with what, with this spirit. There is no privacy, they feed on information, and love to use it against you. Especially if it will help them keep sitting on their “throne”.

It is sad when we sit by and watch this spirit at work and watch people leave the body of Christ because nobody wants to rock the boat and confront it. I have lived through church drama and Jezebels. It breaks my heart to see this happen. The body of Christ is hurting and throwing stones  – at each other.  Enough already, we have way more important things to do than to hurt each other! Let us repent of criticizing each other so we can be healed before this turns into a root of bitterness…

Quotes on Jezebel Her Critical Spirit

  • “Insecurity and jealously can be a cause of someone having a critical spirit towards others. Focusing on men and not the Lord can cause one to be critical of every flaw of others. Satan is also the “the accuser of the brethren” (Revelation 12:10) and sadly can work through or use believers to accomplish his work of tearing down. Those who are habitual fault-finders, constant critics of people and situations usually are sick in the body and full of tension and stress. The Scriptural solution to any of us even struggling in this area is clear: “stop passing judgment on one another” and that we can start to love others in the body of Christ, uplifiting them, edifying them and building them up.” ― Greg Gordon
  • “Nine times out of 10, criticism is a defense mechanism. We criticize in others what we don’t like in ourselves.” ― Mark Batterson
  • The critical spirit never knows when to stop meddling. ―Mason Cooley
  • “the Jezebel that works in a ministry like this seeks to tear down and destroy the name of every person who may have attained some kind of recognition in an area of ministry. While they are occupied in naming names and pointing the finger at these ministers, they end up sowing confusion and discord, and cause many people to fall away from Christianity altogether.” – Lance Rowe
  • “Another thing this spirit is very good at doing is causing a lot of in-fighting, back-biting, and malicious type gossiping among the people that are caught in its web. This kind of spirit knows exactly how to cause major dissension and strife even among the best of friends.” – BibleKnowledge.com
  • “Behind most church fights and unresolved divisions is ugly human pride. And the worst kind of pride is religious pride. The Pharisaical pride of self-righteousness and superiority.” – Alexander Strauch
  • “A “critical spirit,” is an obsessive attitude of criticism and fault-finding, which seeks to tear others down — not the same thing as what is sometimes called “constructive criticism.” The only criticism that is ever constructive is that which is expressed in love to “build up,” not to tear down — it is always expressed face-to-face, never behind their back. The person with a critical spirit usually dwells on the negative, seeks for flaws rather than good. They’re a complainer, usually always upset, and generally have a problem or a complaint about something. They often have little control over their tongue, their temper, and have tendencies for gossip and slander, which Paul said were sins “worthy of death” (Rom. 1:29-32).”- Victorious.org

God Will Fight for You in the Middle of Sickness and Cancer

It wasn’t the news we wanted to hear. The “C” word. It wasn’t the news that God wanted either. He didn’t create disease and sickness. That came when Adam and Eve believed the lie that Satan told them and ate that damn apple.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” -Genesis 3:1-5 NKJV

Adam and Eve knew GOOD.

They lived in Paradise and had everything they ever needed or wanted. There was no sickness. Then Satan lied to them, and they believed him. They ate the damn apple.

Now, Adam and Eve KNEW EVIL. And now, so do we.

EVIL came with the fall of man. So did sickness and disease. So did cancer. It was not God’s intention that his kids got sick. He does not want it any more than we do. Can He fix it? YES!

God made a way for man to be saved from sickness and disease, and came in the flesh as JESUS. JESUS paid the price for our sins and our fallen nature at the Cross of Calvary. “It is finished,” Jesus said. The price has been paid for all sickness, disease, sin, sorrow, suffering. We have been redeemed.

So how do we get from here to there?

I wish there was a switch to turn on and off. I wish that all disease was not here on planet Earth. God said we would have troubles.  In Heaven there will be no sickness, no disease, no sorrow, no tears. I wish we all were in Heaven now, but it’s not time yet. So here we sit in the mess. We aren’t there yet. Many of us battle sickness, disease, and even cancer.

How do we go on? We go THROUGH it. God promised to comfort us in our troubles. God sent the HOLY SPIRIT, the COMFORTER to be with us in the middle of the mess. God promised to HEAL. It may be here, it may be in Heaven. Sorry, that’s the Truth. We all want healing now and instantly. I wish it were like that. But it’s not. I know lots of amazing people who died and were healed on the other side. Either way – they were healed. And now, they are free. I have known people to be healed on this side of Heaven too. Miracles, signs, and wonders happen all the time in the Church. God is the Author of Miracles, all things are possible with God.

The hard part, I guess, is not knowing WHEN the healing will come. That’s what I struggle with. I know God CAN and WILL heal. I just don’t know WHEN. So I have to wait, and trust Him. I have to “Give God a minute,” like my husband tells me. Impatient me, who wants to wake up with everything ok and not have to do the trusting part. Yeah, that trust thing. (still working on this)

I don’t pretend to know it all. God says His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts. I think he has a much bigger perspective on things than we do. He is the Author of Eternity right? Yeah, His vision is much bigger than mine.

So, here in the middle of the mess, I thank God that He is with us and we are not alone. Is this the path I would have chosen for myself or my loved ones? No, probably not. My perspective is limited. I don’t like trials or tribulations. I don’t like sickness. I hate cancer. But I know my God, and He will be by my side and yours in the battle. He will fight for us and will help us.

The Gift of His Peace

“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.  Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ” – John 14:25-27 NKJV

do not fear

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.

God will fight

God will fight for you. He doesn’t like sickness or disease or cancer either…

My Life is in Your Hands

Saturday mornings I usually stay in my jammies until at least noon. It’s a great way to de-stress and just be. It’s a good time to clean house and listen to music. My Saturday playlist? The Kirk Franklin Radio station from Pandora. Yep, it was a Black Gospel Saturday morning for me!

Every once in a while you hear that song that melts your heart. This Saturday it was “My Life is in Your Hands” by God’s Property.  I heard it and the tears just came. Guess I needed to let it out.  You know, we try and be strong and make it through on our own.  That doesn’t work out so well usually.  Then God puts a song on your playlist and you lose it. That was me on Saturday morning.

It’s been a long few months. There have been many including myself who are fighting battles. Sometimes when you are in the front line you get hit by one of Satan’s Arrows. It happens. But what do we do about it?

ephesians 6

This verse teached me that when  I get hit by one of those arrows from the wicked one, I need to do one thing STAND.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—  and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,  for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.” – Ephesians 6:14-20 NKJV

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13

STAND on the promises that God gave us. He PROMISED to HEAL. He promised to BLESS. He promised to never leave us nor forsake me. He promised to DELIVER us. The LORD wil fight for us!

And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” – Exodus 14:13-14 NKJV

Standing with you my friends. Here’s the song that melted my heart yesterday:

My Life is in Your Hands by God’s Property

You don’t have to worry
And don’t you be afraid
Joy comes in the morning
Troubles they don’t last always
For there’s a friend in Jesus
Who will wipe your tears away
And if your heart is broken
Just lift your hands and say
Oh
I know that I can make it
I know that I can stand
No matter what may come my way
My life is in your hands
With Jesus I can take it
With Him I know I can stand
No matter what may come my way
My life is in your hands

So when your tests and trials
They seem to get you down
And all your friends and loved ones
Are nowhere to be found
Remember there’s a friend in Jesus
Who will wipe your tears away
And if you heart is broken
Just lift your hands and say

Oh
I know that I can make it
I know that I can stand
No matter what may come my way
My life is in your hands
With Jesus I can take it
With Him I know I can stand
No matter what may come my way
My life is in your hands

Even in the Mess, God is Faithful

I know so many people going through trials. I have been there too. It is not always easy to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you are sitting in the dark. Sometimes, we lose faith. Sometimes we lose hope that we will make it through the storm. We are human, that is normal. Have you ever been there?

During those times, one thing I learned is that no matter what I was facing, no matter if I had hope or even faith to make it through – God was faithful. Even when I doubted, even when I questioned, even when I did not understand – God was faithful. That is who He is. He does not change.   It is HIS character, not my feelings that determines the outcome.

It kinda blew my mind to think that my doubt, my questioning, my getting angry, or whatever did not phase God. My insecurites did NOT limit his love for me or His Faithfulness. He loved me anyway.

I had to learn to trust WHAT GOD SAID over how I FELT.  Reading the Word gives me hope. Reading the Word opens my mind that God can and WILL change things.

If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself.”  2 Timothy 2:13 NKJV

God is faithful, no matter what. Hold on to His promises. He will do what He said He would do because He is Faithful.

Here are some of the promises I hold on to:

  • God you promised to heal ALL.
  • God you promised NEVER to leave me nor forsake me.
  • God you promised that you would MAKE A WAY where there is no way.
  • God you promised to give me BEAUTY for ashes.
  • God you promised that instead of my shame you would give me a DOUBLE portion.

Give God a minute. GOD IS FAITHFUL. Your story isn’t over yet.

Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
You established the earth, and it abides.” Psalm 119:90 NKJV

We are the Fire Keepers

Have you ever watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics? I love that part. They bring the torch out and pass the fire from person to person.  According to Wikipaedia:

“The Olympic flame is a symbol used in the Olympic movement. Several months before the Olympic Games, the Olympic flame is lit at Olympia, Greece. This ceremony starts the Olympic torch relay, which formally ends with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. The flame then continues to burn in the cauldron for the duration of the Games, until it is extinguished during the Olympic closing ceremony.”

The fire starts and ends the Games. Why do I bring this up? It’s not even a year for the Olympics. I went to a place in Michigan when I visited my sister in law last week that was called FireKeepers.  I saw that name and the waterfall with FIRE and thought of God.

God reveals Himself in the FIRE of our lives!

20180911_133736

  • God revealed Himself to Moses in the fire of that burning bush:

“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.  And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.  Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”

So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!”

And he said, “Here I am.”

Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

And the Lord said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.  So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.  Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.  Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.””  Exodus 13: 1-10

  • Later on in Exodus, God came down in fire to talk to Moses again:

“Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.  And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice.  Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.”  Exodus 19:18-20

  • In the New Testament we evens see how we will be baptized with fire:

“John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

  • And then in Acts, the Holy Spirit comes down and into belivers like fire:

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” – Acts 2:1-4

God proves it to us over and over – where there is FIRE He speaks and He Delivers!

He put His fire inside of us, His Holy Spirit, to overcome the world.

God’s fire will burn up any sickness, illness, oppression, or any enemy that tries to come at us.

God has made us the Fire Keepers in the world!

When the Battle is Ugly

I know people who love to fight, and others who would rather sit back and watch the fight.

Life is a battleground.

We can choose to participate, or sit back and watch it go by. It’s gonna get ugly sometimes. Let’s be realistic, we’re not in the garden of Eden anymore.

God is with you. Take a breath. Yeah, this chapter may really suck right now, but there is another chapter after this. We are not at the end of your story yet…

“And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.” – Ephesians 6:10-12 MSG

Best song for the Battle….

Chin Up Buttercup

Chin up buttercup. Have you ever heard that saying? I heard it today in the spirit, yeah, really. My Mom used to say that to me when I was a kid So I had to look it up. Where in the world does that come from? I laughed when I read it:

chin up

From  Phrases.org:

This sounds like one of those rousing maxims that were drilled into the young of Victorian England – like keep a stiff upper lip. Perhaps surprisingly, the phrase is American. The first use of it that I can find is from the Pennsylvania newspaper The Evening Democrat, October 1900, under the heading Epigrams Upon the Health-giving Qualities of Mirth:

“Keep your chin up. Don’t take your troubles to bed with you – hang them on a chair with your trousers or drop them in a glass of water with your teeth.” – [they were easily amused in Pennsylvania in 1900].

No matter what you are going through, we have a God who knows and sees. He promised never to leave us or forsake us. He is in the boat with us when the storm is going on! He promised – we are going THROUGH this storm to the OTHER SIDE!

We have the same power in us that raised Christ from the dead. Nobody can stop that – not circumstances, not sickness, not disease, not people, places, or things. When God says RISE, we RISE!

Chin up Buttercup!

I guess my point is that life is short. Let’s enjoy the journey. Brings a song to my head. I loved watching this movie CARS with my kiddos when they were litte. Life is a Highway!

Life is a Highway Lyrics

Life’s like a road that you travel on
When there’s one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend and sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There’s a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won’t haunt you anymore
Where brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore
We won’t hesitate
To break down the garden gate
There’s not much time left today
Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
Through all these cities and all these towns
It’s in my blood, and it’s all around
I love you now like I loved you then
This is the road, and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber Pass to Vancouver’s lights
Knock me down and back up again
You’re in my blood; I’m not a lonely man
There’s no load I can’t hold
A road so rough this I know
I’ll be there when the light comes in
Tell ’em we’re survivors
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
There was a distance between you and I
A misunderstanding once
But now we look in the eye
There ain’t no load that I can’t hold
A road so rough this I know
I’ll be there when the light comes in
Tell ’em we’re survivors
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, yeah
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I wanna drive it all night long

Sometimes it’s Good to Go into Hiding

I’m hiding. I have been ever since I got some bad news about a medical condition. Not earth shattering or anything, just not what I wanted to hear. For the last few weeks I haven’t been up to much other than work and home. I had a few banner days with my kiddos, but other that I kinda shut down.

I think it ‘s natural when you get bad news. My first response is to reject it. I don’t want to hear it. I deny it. That lasted for a few weeks. Then I finally caved and went and took the test the Dr. asked me too. I didn’t like what he had to say. So I rejected his orders to go take another test.

I don’t want to. I don’t even want to think about what could happen. I am not good with the “what ifs”. Better just to ignore it. So I did. Well, that lasted another 2 weeks. I finally caved and have to go in for another test in 2 more weeks. Uggh – this getting older sucks sometimes!

I know God can heal and will heal – but can He hurry up about it? I really don’t like this waiting and trusting stuff. It’s very uncomfortable. Probably my lesson I guess. Yeah, I get it. But I still don’t like it.

My Pastor even preached about how ‘we have not because we ask not’. He shared how we need to tell each other what we are going through. I about fell out of my chair! Seriously Lord, who told him? I know I was praying about it, but in my pride, I didn’t want to tell anybody what I was struggling with. And here comes Holy Spirit, lol! God cracks me up sometimes. After the sermon, I gathered my ‘girl tribe’ and told them what was going on so they could pray. I told my kids that day too…this life stuff is so humbling at times.

psalm 32_7

So in my hiding spot I looked at other people who hid in the Bible:

  • Elisha went to hide and God met him there:

And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”” So he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.” – 1 Kings 19:9-10 NKJV

  • Elizabeth went to hide after the Lord met with her husband and God restored her womb:

And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he lingered so long in the temple. But when he came out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless.

So it was, as soon as the days of his service were completed, that he departed to his own house.  Now after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying,  “Thus the Lord has dealt with me, in the days when He looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.” – Luke 1:21-25 NKJV

  • Jesus went to hide himself to hear from God the Father and pray

While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them. – John 12:36 NKJV

Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a Solitary place; and there He prayed. – Mark 1:35

So hey, maybe this hiding thing is a good thing. I can meet God right here in the middle of my mess. I’ll make God my hiding place and get through this dumb stuff.
