Discovering God’s Surprises in Everyday Life

I recently had one of those ‘ahah’ moments. Funny how that happens in our everyday life. I think that sometimes I make God so big and myself so small. After all, He is the Big Guy in charge, right? And with all that election stuff going on I’m sure He was pretty busy.

A bit of backstory. About 2 weeks ago we had a Church Chili Mix. My husband is a chef, really, I think so, and we brought our chili which had to stay separate. My husband loves it hot! In getting ready and heating up this and that we pulled out a few pans from the cupboard. Man, those things are old! Maybe leftovers from way back when or who knows. Anyway, they did the job and the Chili Mix was a great time had by all.

That’s when I had a thought…uhoh, watch out, lol! Man, somebody should buy a new set of pans for Church. They are really not that expensive, and we sure could use them. We finished cleaning up and headed home. I thought that would be the end of it. Nope.

I woke up the next morning and remembered those pots and pans. I thought to myself, well I’ll look around and if I find a good deal, I’ll think about it. I started my online search, with coffee, of course. And the adventure began. Man, sometimes Google is not your friend. There are so many choices! Do you buy ceramic, or non stick, brand name or generic, and what color? Oh my.

A couple of hours passed by and I finally settled on a set from Walmart. I liked the color – they were green! And guess what? They were on sale, 50% off! Dang. I put those babies in my cart and placed my order. Woohoo! Mission accomplished!

I didn’t really want anyone to know that we bought them, we brought them in one day and hid the old ones, lol. We just wanted to be a blessing.

Later in the week I was using my pots and pans. Man, these are beat up too! The first thing I thought of was those green pans! I know, I’ll get myself a set too. I checked the website and guess what? They were not on sale anymore. Ugggh. I cheaped out and didn’t order them.

For the next few days I had pan lust. Yep, who knew? God knew. He heard me. Stupid thing to think about, pots and pans in the ending days of the election and stuff. I’m sure God had much bigger things to do than help me find pans! We had plenty of pots and pans anyway. It wasn’t a need, more of a want. I let it go and went on with my day.

But guess what God did?

I was shopping at Goodwill a few days later and down on the very bottom two shelves I saw it – a pink Cuisinart Frying pan. It looked brand new. I picked it up, and to my surprise there were 7 other matching pots and pans with lids. Woohoo, score! I moved stuff in my cart and placed those precious pots and pans in my cart. Thinking to my self, “Thank you God, You knew I was still stuck on those pans!”

Then I experienced cart lust, lol. 2 separate older ladies asked me, “Did you find all of those here?” I said, “Yes, right here on the bottom shelf.” The other lady asked, “What brand are those?” I replied, “Cuisinart”. I knew I had to get out of there fast! Nothing like ‘the look’ from a fellow shopper who wants what you have in your cart!

I have never had such cool pans. And they are pink! I love it! And the cost? Half of what I had paid for the green set! Thank you God, for hearing me, even in the little things. Thanks for the fun surprises you have for me in my everyday life. Thanks for surprising me, I love it! Read more here – Surprise Me Daddy!

“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” – Luke 12:6-7 NKJV

Of course God cares, He numbers the hairs on our heads!

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;  and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” – Matthew 6:25-34 NKJV

Thanks God. Thanks for letting me see you in my everyday life. Thanks for reminding me that you hear me and I am not alone. And a special thanks for those pans! See also – Filled with Awe & Wonder!
