Have you ever gotten a surprise? Totally unexpected and out of the blue knock your sock off kind of surprise? I have had this happen to me in the natural, with my natural dad and father-in-law and also in the Spiritual realm with my Heavenly Father. Just as our natural fathers love us and want to provide good things for us, so does our Heavenly Father.

The other day I was asking God for wisdom in the job arena. You see my husbands IT business has flourished and he is now able to hire other contractors to help him. Praise God! But as for me, I have not been back to the 9-5 workplace since I broke my leg 2 1/2 years ago. I tried a part-time job at the grocery store for about 8 months, but unfortunately that only sent me back to Physical Therapy.

So, I have entered this season of choosing to trust God and His Promises despite what I see. And I am learning to trust my husband. That’s a hard one for a girl who has been abused. I have been a Lone Ranger for so many years and have had to start over with my kids, work 3 jobs to make it, no child support, etc. for years. I hated men for a long time. And I have to confess, I blamed God for it and didn’t like Him either for a while.

But then, just when you ‘think’ you have it all figured out, Daddy God surprises you! Yep, every time. He is faithful, even though others may not have been. He is true, even though other may have lied. He provides, even when things don’t go as planned and you get deserted. And His love is real, even though we may have been deceived at one time.

God surprised me with a rainbow the other day. Remember the story of Noah and how afterwards God put the bow in the sky as a token and covenant that He would not destroy the Earth with floods again? I was driving home from dropping off my daughter at a friend’s house and looked up in the sky.

God spoke to my heart,

“My covenant and promise with you is greater than any destruction you have been through.”

And then I saw the rainbow start in the sky and come down to the ground!  Really, it was so totally cool!  I pulled over to take pictures. I knew that one was for me. What a surprise, thank you Daddy God. Yes, I believe your promises.  And You are greater and You remember us!

Then God spoke to Noah and his sons: “I’m setting up my covenant with you including your children who will come after you, along with everything alive around you—birds, farm animals, wild animals—that came out of the ship with you. I’m setting up my covenant with you that never again will everything living be destroyed by floodwaters; no, never again will a flood destroy the Earth.”

God continued, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and everything living around you and everyone living after you. I’m putting my rainbow in the clouds, a sign of the covenant between me and the Earth. From now on, when I form a cloud over the Earth and the rainbow appears in the cloud, I’ll remember my covenant between me and you and everything living, that never again will floodwaters destroy all life. When the rainbow appears in the cloud, I’ll see it and remember the eternal covenant between God and everything living, every last living creature on Earth.”

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I’ve set up between me and everything living on the Earth.” (Genesis 9: 8-17 MSG)
