True Beauty

Yes, you believe in God, but do you believe in yourself?  It’s not what YOU say to me that I am worried about, it’s what I say to me.

Check out this video from Dove on True Beauty.

I have to be honest, when I look in the mirror, it’s not always the most positive thing that I’m thinking.  I’ve had some changes…after having four children, umpteen “girl” surgeries, and a broken leg this year, I’m not really in the best shape – physically.  How come I can’t look like I was when I was 18?  You know that girl is still in there!

That got me thinking, how do I define beauty? Well, it has it has changed over the years.  I used to think it was a physical thing, how skinny I was, etc.  I know, kinda shallow, but that’s how it is when  you are young. And let’s face it, the media doesn’t help.  Talk about unrealistic expectations! Hence the video…

So, I guess my definition has changed.  It’s funny, once you redefine something, you see things differently.  So yes, today I doing my best not to criticize what God has made – me… God doesn’t make junk.  He saw what He had made, and God called it good.  And you are beautiful too!

GODS PROMISE TO YOU:

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,  I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:14-16 NIV

“Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised”  Proverbs 31:31 AMP

“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.” Psalm 27:4 AMP

MY PRAYER FOR YOU:

Dear Lord,

Help us change how we think about ourselves.  We have believed so many lies.  Lies from the enemy, from people who have hurt us, and just plain lies.  We speak the truth over ourselves today, Your Truth…

We are fearfully and wonderfully made!  As we come to You in the secret place, replace the lies with the truth of Your Word.  We were made in Your image, and we know You are beautiful!  Help us receive it Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

  1. Ignore my message about the video, I got it. That is a good one. I’ll borrow it and post it on my FaceBook. Thanks, Diana

    • I put the link in instead, guess Dove doesn’t want me embedding their video…oh well, thanks for the heads-up. It didn’t work for me either tonight. It worked this morning…hmmm? Who knows?

  2. We are all beautiful in the eyes of the Lord and let us remember that. Aw.. what happened to the video?

  3. This was a beautiful post! 🙂 From beautiful you! You will laugh . ..whenever I see a picture of myself, I’m always kind of shocked. I just don’t look like that to me. haha! Guess I’m looking at my eyes or smile in the mirror, and over looking all the rest.
God bless you and thank you for sharing this! Here’s a song it made me think of . . .

  4. Amen. To the world’s eyes, I’m not the pretty young woman I once was… I’m heavier (much heavier)… out of shape… need my eyebrows waxed (but no money to do so, and can’t see well enough to tweeze)… and yet, when I look into the mirror, I see a woman who is filled with joy… a woman who has raised two children, and will soon have 9 grandchildren… a woman who is filled with the peace and love of Christ… Though I have very little monetarily, all of my needs are met… When I look in the mirror at that woman, I see someone who has been hurt, knocked down, pushed around, but I don’t see a victim. When I look at that woman, I don’t see a survivor either. When I look in the mirror, the woman who looks back at me is more than a conqueror… She is a victorious woman of God… made in His image… and she is beautiful, because He said so. 😀

What a wonderful post, my beloved sister! It brought me great joy!

    Much love to you,
    Cheryl
