From Sexual Abuse to Healing: A 10-Day GRACE Devotional

Occasionally I come across things that help me heal and I feel compelled to share it.

I was raped when I was a teenager. I didn’t talk about it until I was in my 30’s in counseling. Sexual abuse made me feel dirty no matter how many showers I took. It affected my first marriage and my ability to be intimate. I found out I would “check out” whenever things got too close. It was a defense mechanism that helped me survive the rape, but it did not serve me any longer.

You attract what you are…and I was not healthy and the relationship was not healthy. Needless to say that marriage ended. Partly because of my lack of intimacy, but more-so due to the fact that I had married an Abuser.

After seeking counseling I learned new habits that help me see what a real relationship should look like. Sex was NOT love. Control was NOT love. Abuse was NOT love. Maybe you can relate?

Here is a resource that FINALLY helped me understand. It’s a quick 10 day reading plan by GRACE Ministries of Alabama.

The trauma experienced from sexual abuse can be devastating. The pain may be overwhelming and often results in a struggle to understand God and our identity. Unfortunately, few resources exist to meet the needs of victims of sexual trauma. The GRACE Abounds devotional is a resource that offers support and the truth of Jesus’ abundant love to women ready to begin their healing journey.

We would like to thank GRACE Ministries of Alabama for providing this plan. For more information, please visit: https://graceministries.life/
