Being a Blessing – Guest Post by Jennifer Parrish

This morning my daughter Jennifer Parrish shared an amazing story of how a complete stranger chose to bless her and her family. It is a beautiful story of ‘paying it forward’ and choosing to be a blessing in this world. This is from her FB page today:

I don’t get “serious” on here often, but something remarkable happened over the weekend and I think it holds an important lesson for all of us. I was waiting in a long line to check out at Target with a stockpile of SIX boxes of diapers and various groceries (crazy couponing, of course!) The couple behind me struck up a conversation with me to pass the time. We talked about my baby, mostly. First time mom. Sleepless nights. Those cute yet elusive first smiles and laughs. Jokes about how many diapers she must be going through as they eyed my cart. The cashier finished scanning my coupons, and as I was grabbing my card to pay, they stuck their credit card in the machine. WHAAA??? I was astonished. And overcome with emotion. I think I thanked them a thousand times as I gathered my things, teary-eyed. I haven’t stopped thinking about this. Did I say anything that made me sound like a charity-case? No, I don’t think so. I think they saw a new mom, putting an extraordinary amount of effort into saving money on the things she needed and they genuinely wanted to make a difference. What a gesture! It got me thinking a lot about money and the kind of example I want to set for my daughter. We’re all feeling the pressure to make more money, save more money, spend more money…we’re all obsessed. Even my “crazy couponing” can be viewed as an obsession with money. It’s a sickness. We have a roof over our head, food on the table, and clothes on our backs. And that’s more than most in this world. I want my little girl to know that; to really appreciate that. I think we all need to remember IT’S JUST MONEY. It’s what you do with it that really matters. Maybe it’s less about constantly collecting new and better things, and more about finding contentment and appreciation for what you have been blessed with. Maybe if we find ourselves in an opportunity to help another person, we should take it–without weighing it against our own needs first. Total strangers paid for a new mom’s diapers…and made a lasting impact on her philosophy about money, and the real value in life.

Thank you Jen – for sharing your heart with us today. Your post reminds us all how a simple act of kindness can mean so much. You are an amazing young woman and your daughter is blessed to call you Mom.

Thank you Lord for the kindness of these people. Bless them 100 times over!

Don’t Judge Your Life By the Color of the Puzzle Piece You Are Holding

Have you ever done a puzzle? I love opening the box. It doesn’t matter if its 100, 250, or 500, or 1000+ pieces. Each one different. Yet each one in needed. Some are yellow, some are red, some are blue, and some are black. Many have lots of colors on each individual piece. Before you even begin you know that it will come together in the end and make the most beautiful picture. It will look just like the box. A Masterpiece.

Do you start with the end pieces first? Or are you a color person and do it section by section? I like to dump all the pieces out on the table and see what I got first. I’m not the fastest puzzle girl. More slow and methodical. It’s not a race after all. I could take as long as I like to put the pieces together. Each one special. Each part needed.

What if each of those puzzle pieces was a part of your life?

There would be happy colors and sad colors, light pieces and dark pieces. Yet they would all fit together in your life to make a beautiful creation.

What if we didn’t judge our whole life by the color of the puzzle piece we are holding right now?

Puzzles always go faster with a helper. Sometimes they see things differently and things come together. I saw this tweet this morning and it started this whole thought process.

Today may be a dark puzzle piece. Hang on – your story is not over yet. The puzzle is not finished yet. There is more than you know right now. Trust God. Let Him help. His Masterpiece is just coming together!

Loving Others Extravagantly in 2016

My goal for 2016 is to open my heart more. To love others extravagantly and without measure. To give grace abundantly and to open my life to my fellow brothers and sisters.

2 Corinthians 6:12-13 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. As a fair exchange—I speak as to my children—open wide your hearts also.

It troubles me that we are not bound together in our everyday lives. We come together on Sunday and praise the Lord yet on Monday or Tues we don’t even talk. The body is hurting. And we are not even talking about it. It’s time to get real – and share our struggles. I’m not talking about a church function where we all out on our ‘religious faces.’ It’s the ordinary, everyday lives that we should share with each other. Let it begin with me Lord.

When did fellowship become an event?

When did a meal together become an event?

What happen to just sharing our lives?

I pray for humility this year. To stop the religious ‘busy-ness’ of events and just ‘be’ with other believers. To be spontaneous and have fun together. To be the family that laughs together and cries together and prays together.

Philippians 2:1-4 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.

Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Let me put others needs above my own this year Lord. Open my eyes to see where I can help my brothers or sisters. Let me see and fill their needs – whether it is time, money, food, prayers, or just sitting down long enough to listen – use me Lord to build up the Body of Christ, in Jesus Name.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

God Be the Thread

God I need you to be the thread

To sew up my broken heart again

Give me the strength to believe

That with Your help

things can change

John 15:26-27 “But when the Helper Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of Truth who comes from the Father, He will testify and bear witness about Me. But you will testify also and be My witnesses, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

What is and What Always Will Be

Just relaxing and watching an old movie. And you hear it. That one sentence that God is speaking to you with. It stirs your heart. And rumbles in your soul. It was just another line of the movie. But the weight of the words hits you like a ton of bricks.  Tony was watching an old movie that his father made for him. His father had passed away years earlier. But he thought ahead and said:

“I made all this for you.

What is and what always will be my greatest creation – is you.”

– Iron Man 2

And I hear Abba Father saying this to you and I today. God made this world for you. And it is good. And God made you and I and called it VERY GOOD!

Genesis 1_31

He Hears Your Tears

God knows. And He hears your tears as prayers. We started this Bible study at Church about Depression. I know it’s a good thing. But can I say I am coming unglued? After our second session I went up to the Guest that came to teach us and just hugged her. I said thank you. It was like a wall came down in me. I had to go downstairs in the bathroom to cry. All these emotions just flooding over me. Idk why. Guess it was time for them to come out. As tears. So much healing yet to be done.

Help us all Lord, open our hearts and our minds as Deep calls out to Deep and we let the Holy Spirit in the secret places in our hearts. The rooms that words don’t touch. The rooms of hurt, and darkness. Shine your light Lord, and bring Healing in Jesus Name.

Psalm 116:1-14
I love the Lord because he hears my voice and  my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! Death wrapped its ropes around me;the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord:“Please, Lord, save me!” How kind the Lord is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours! The Lord protects those of childlike faith; I was facing death, and he saved me. Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me. He has saved me from death,my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth! I believed in you, so I said,“I am deeply troubled, Lord.” In my anxiety I cried out to you,“These people are all liars!” What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord’s name for saving me. I will keep my promises to the Lord in the presence of all his people.

“Raindrops fall from the sky because the clouds can no longer hold them”

There are tears
my heart can’t hold
falling down soaking the ground

Water from my soul
releasing pain
It’s my cry to begin again

From a secret place
I see your face
Your raindrops are tears
Sent from above
pouring out love
Your raindrops are tears

drench my hurt
heal my pain
You can call me by a new name

soak the trees
heal all things
that are precious to a King

From a secret place
I see your face
Your raindrops are tears
Sent from above
pouring out love
Your raindrops are tears

You wept when I wept
You cried when I cried

From a secret place
I see your face
Your raindrops are tears
Sent from above
pouring out love
Your raindrops are tears

I see the ocean in your eyes
years of laughter and surprise
Waves of sorrow, tides of tears
Being together all these years

The moon sparkles on the water
Reflects my devotion always
Our love is tried and true
Time is still when I’m with you

Did I tell you I love you today?
I thought I would ask and say
Like the waves on the shore
Can I tell you once more
I love you today
and forever more

Created to be Loved

©2015 Diana Rasmussen

The Creator of the universe
is the creator of your life
He paints His grace and mercy
on the canvas of your face

He molds you and He makes you
into the masterpiece we see
You are created with the love of God
His breath’s inside of you

You are created to be loved
endowed with power from above
What a marvelous display
to be captured by His grace

He’s the Lord of all creation
as you look upon His face
Rest in His forgiveness
You’re created to be loved

Stand Through the Trials

I would like to share with you my testimony of the strength of Love. My husband and I have both been married before. Nobody said it would be easy. In fact the odds were against us. We both have kids from previous marriages. And the ‘fun’ with the ex’s – yeah right. Yet in spite of everything God was and still is faithful. He has given us strength to overcome all the trials that were thrown our way these past 8 years. There would have been many times where it would have just been easier to walk away. We have lived through both of our moms passing away – in the same year. We have had 3 cars get smashed or just plain ‘die’. Both of our dads have made it through major surgeries this past year – thank you Jesus! I lost track of how many times we have moved. Then there was the leg break and losing work for the last 3 years. But God is faithful. He held us up when we couldn’t hold on any longer. God provided for all of our needs. Our families helped and we stuck together despite it all. And God never left. He was right there beside us through all of it. Our family is stronger these days, and so is our love.

Perhaps this is your season of testing. Stand strong my friends. God is with you and sticks closer than a brother. He will provide a way when there seems to be no way. He will sing songs of deliverance over you. God will shine light into your darkness and lead you out of the valley of despair. Your story is NOT over yet!

Come on in. Welcome to my family and our home. Come on into our lives and watch and see what God can do! These pics are from our lives in the past 8 years, along with a few from Pinterest. Life is good, and God is great!

When the money’s gone and the bills come in
When the sky turns black and it’s thundering
When it seems the only answer is to walk away
We’re gonna forgive them anyway

We’re gonna get through this
Hope is born in the middle of the storm
We’re gonna get through this
Dig down deep and take my hand
Only together, we stand

When the work is long and the pay is slow
When our hair turns gray cause we’re getting old
When the kids move out to find their way
We’re gonna love our life anyway

God is our light in these waves
Hope is our Anchor, we’ll stay

Pursue Peace

We have been so blessed this month with visiting family. My brother came out from Nevada with his family for a week. And this week my brother in law from CA and my sister in law from MI are here. Now may I confess, we do not have the picture perfect family. There have been troubles and fights and disagreements. I have to confess that prayer changes things. When we knew they were coming to visit my husband and I started praying. “God open doors and open hearts to heal our family.” Can I tell you what? God answers prayer. And he did. Our time together was so blessed with one more gathering tonight for my father in laws 84th birthday.

Stuff doesn’t matter, money doesn’t matter – it’s the people that we have in our lives that are the best treasure here on earth.

Thank you Jesus for healing hearts and opening doors!

Philippians 4:6 – Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

John 16:33 – These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Romans 12:18 – If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Dear Lord,

You told us salvation was for us AND our families. I ask you to step right into the middle of our mess and restore and heal hearts. Let your forgiveness of us flow through us to our families. We lay down all offenses and take the higher road today. We forgive those who have offended us and ask you to open up new doors of opportunity for healing in our families.  Let us love one another as You have loved us, in Jesus Name.

peace of Christ

You’re  the picture on my fridge
I love to color outside of the lines
The mountains might be purple
The sky it might be pink
And know my plans for you
Are bigger than you think
chosenLift up your head and turn your gaze
I’ll fill you with my peace
Let your troubles fall to the ground
I’ve got you child I’ll provide you with all things
Don’t worry about tomorrow
I’ve got you in my arms
Don’t see yourself through their labels and their licitizenes
look to me and I’ll open up your eyes
You’re not what they say
but you’re beautiful and free
Made with love and mercy
You’re my masterpiece

15 Quotes on Being Satisfied With Life

Are you satisfied with your life?

Are you happy?

Are you peaceful?

Remember when you were a little kid? And going to the store and getting that candy bar at the store – now that was satisfaction! And then being a teenager, and your parents gave you the car keys for your night out? That was satisfaction. And maybe later in life you got married, and you thought now this is satisfaction. Then the kids came and again – that was satisfaction. But isn’t it funny, how things change as you go through life? Suddenly what you thought would bring satisfaction didn’t anymore.

So we got the MORE mentality. If I get more money, more fun, more stuff – then I’ll be satisfied. So we do it. And it does not bring the peace that we thought it would. Until we realize that:

Satisfaction is not in what we do or what we have.

I have found that the only way to satisfaction in life is Jesus. There is no other thing that can fill that God place but Him. Not money, not jobs, not family, not friends, not relationships – just Him.

GOD is the SOURCE of my satisfaction.

We all have a place in our heart that longs for His presence and His touch. He is our Creator and He made us that way.

Does Life Have a Name?

© 2014 Diana Rasmussen

Tried chasing money, tried make-believe fame
Had lots of power, just got devoured
Lonely and empty in my fancy position
my name it’s on the door
there has to be more

Does Life have a Name?
I’m so tired of playing this game.
Success feels like failure turned inside out

I’ve worshiped knowledge, with liars and politics
rules of tradition, lots of religion
This world can’t fill me up, my cup’s almost empty
I’m grasping at straws, seeing all of my flaws

Does Life have a Name?
I’m so tired of playing this game.
Success feels like failure turned inside out

lonely in a crowded room

Does Life have a Name?
I’m so tired of playing this game.
Success feels like failure turned inside out
