Bye Bye Car

 “Again, God’s Message:

“‘I’ll turn things around for Jacob.
I’ll compassionately come in and rebuild homes.
The town will be rebuilt on its old foundations;
the mansions will be splendid again.
Thanksgivings will pour out of the windows;
laughter will spill through the doors.
Things will get better and better.
Depression days are over.
They’ll thrive, they’ll flourish.
The days of contempt will be over.
They’ll look forward to having children again,
to being a community in which I take pride.
I’ll punish anyone who hurts them,
and their prince will come from their own ranks.
One of their own people shall be their leader.
Their ruler will come from their own ranks.
I’ll grant him free and easy access to me.
Would anyone dare to do that on his own,
to enter my presence uninvited?’ God’s Decree.

“‘And that’s it: You’ll be my very own people,
I’ll be your very own God.’”  (Jeremiah 30:18-22 MSG)

She Carries Her Secrets

The Daily Prompt is about Secrets. I wrote a song about SECRETS not too long ago.  There are so many things we try to bury.  Pretend they never happened.

She carries her secrets around in a box, hides them in darkness keeps them locked…

Shoves the box under the bed, some things are not meant to be said.

~Diana Rasmussen AMETHYST SHARDS

Take those things we don’t want to talk about, shove them in a ‘box’ in our hearts, and hope they never come up again.  I think they grow in there. Yep, the more I tried to stuff in there, the worse it got.  And the sicker I got.  And the more I wanted to hurt myself and others. Not a healthy way to deal with things.

Eventually I found people I could trust to share my ‘box of secrets’ with.  Yes, I had to go to counseling and pay someone to listen. I have gotten ‘help’ more than once in my life.  Different counselors, depending on what state I was living in at the time. Yet, I have to say, overall my experience was good.  Having someone to share these things with helped me.  I have heard it said that you are only as sick as your secrets. I believe that.

The more secrets I held in about myself, the more I lived in fear and shame.  And shame will haunt you like no other ghost can.  It will condemn you everytime you look in the mirror.  That shame may have been put there by something that you have done, or even, what someone has done to you.  I had a lot of those secrets.  Abuse, Domestic Violence, lets just say that things happened that shouldn’t have happened.  It wasn’t right.  Those were the things I had to let out and share with someone I trusted. And once I did, I was free of them.

Finally after years I found a Christian Counselor, she was the easiest one to talk to.  Her perspective was different.  I could talk about God there.  I have shared a few secrets with some of the Pastors in my past. Some, not all.  God knows what I have lived through.  And I know He loves me and forgives me.  He was there.

We’re his people, his well-tended sheep.

Fog

“When no plant of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not [yet] caused it to rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the ground.  But there went up a mist (fog, vapor) from the land and watered the whole surface of the ground—Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:5-7 AMP)

Daily Prompt: First!

Tell us about your first day at something — your first day of school, first day of work, first day living on your own, first day blogging, first day as a parent, whatever.

It All Started With Love…

Yep.  Daddy God wanted a family.

He could make something out of nothing – with just a Word.

Yep, that powerful.

And yet, He wanted someone to love, to protect, to cherish, and to be with.

That’s where you and I come in.

See, it starts and ends with Love…

Morning Has Broken

Morning has broken

MORNING HAS BROKEN

by Cat Stevens

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God’s recreation of the new day

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word

I think it goes something like, “In the beginning GOD created the Heavens and the Earth.  And He made them Man and Woman – IN his IMAGE, and it was GOOD!”

So my question is – why do we try so hard to make up our own image?

Why do we ‘try to find ourselves’?

Why do we spend all those years trying to deal with OUR feelings?

Why does it matter?

Who does GOD say I am?

How does HE feel about me?

Don’t His feelings about me matter more than my feelings about me?

Ouch!

I have to admit, I have been rather selfish in this department.  I know I got that from the “World System’ of doing things – thinking it was all about ME. Really?

Hey I  got my iPad, iPhone, iPod, iHome, and my iMovie for my iLife  “i” everything these days – hmmmm…

I am kind of glad God is renewing my mind in this area.  I am weary of trying to figure ME out.  When it’s not even about ME – it’s about HIM.  And until I  get rid of this PRIDE thing, He is waiting…

P.S. For one of the BEST posts I have read about PRIDE head over to

DEEP AND WONDERFUL THOUGHTS

A Clean House: An Allegory of How God Changes us from the Inside Out

Dear Lord,

Forgive us, for putting ourselves up on that pedestal and worshipping our own thoughts and feelings. Forgive us for being prideful.  Thank you Holy Spirit for bringing this to our attention, we confess our idolatry.  Let us cast down our vain imaginations, and our graven images of ourselves.  Let us not rely on ourselves, but upon YOU Lord, for you have made us in Your image.  And what You make is good.  Let us stop magnifying our feelings, hurts, sorrows, shortcomings and ourselves – it is not about us, it’s about YOU, in Jesus Name.

This is what HE did – for us…

“Lay Down My Life”

By Sidewalk Prophets

All your pain
Will be made mine
All your troubles
The tears you cry
Give it up
All that binds
I will place it on my shoulders
And up this hill I’ll climb
Father, give me strength
I know there is no other way
I lay down my life for you
This is the moment when all will be made new
I know that you don’t understand
But this is part of a greater plan
So I lay down my life for you
This is love
That had to bleed
To bring you mercy
To set you free
You are mine
I am yours
And I will wear your burdens
Just like this crown of thorns
I will take your place
I know there is no other way
I lay down my life for you
This is the moment when all will be made new
I know that you don’t understand
But this is part of a greater plan
And I lay down my life for you
Give me all your pride
Give me all your fears
Give me all your secrets
Give me all your tears
Give me all you doubt
Give me all your shame
Watch them wash away
Watch them wash away
Give me all your pride
Give me all your fears
Give me all your secrets
Give me all your tears
Give me all you doubt
Give me all your shame
Watch them wash away
In Jesus’ name
I lay down my life for you
This is the moment when all will be made new
I know that you don’t understand
But this is part of a greater plan
And I lay down my life for you
Though I know that you don’t understand
These scars are part of a greater plan
And I lay down my life for you
Arms stretched out
Upon this tree
To show true love
To set you free

Free Indeed

Freedom – comes with a price.  It’s not really free.  It costs our military their lives sometimes, it cost Jesus his life.  And my freedom, cost me a marriage 9or two).  There were many posts I was not sure if I should write.  It may have been easier to keep my mouth shut.  Leave the secrets behind closed doors.  But that would not have helped me heal, nor been of any use to anyone else going through the same situation.  So, we write to heal, to release the pain, and be free!

Here are a few of my posts that share what it was like. And, as those of you who know me, I sing about it too (under Diana’s Music tab).  My lyrics tell my story as only a song can.

WHY DOESN’T SHE JUST LEAVE

I can’t tell you how many times people have said this to me when I was trying to get out of an abusive marriage.

DO YOU HEAR THE CHILDREN CRYING

This one was especially hard – I released the artwork that my children had drawn with the counselor while we were at the Domestic Violence Shelter for the last time.  It was really ‘the straw that broke the camels back’ for me – I never went back after seeing these pictures.

RESCUED AND CHANGED

This one ‘spills the beans’, it really made me look at who I used to be. And I confessed to many things I used to do.  Kind of hard to just put it out there – but it’s the truth.

Living in Fear

Daily Prompt: Fright Night

Do you like being scared by books, films, and surprises? Describe the sensation of being scared, and why you love it — or don’t.
I do not like being afraid.  I am not a ‘ride’ girl, skip the roller coasters and stuff.  And skip the horror flicks.  I guess it comes from all the times I was terrified in my own home behind closed doors.  That’s what happens when you live in Domestic Violence.  There is a reason people call one person the “abuser” and the other the “victim”.  It is sort of like being a POW – the mind control that goes on and the fearing for your life and your children’s lives too. Here is a poem that I wrote and turned into a song.  It talks about the fear, and what it feels like to live there.

like steam on the glass, shame covers her past

the fog slithers down, as evil surrounds

His worst fantasy, her reality

he pulls the strings, does unspeakable things

a sadistic entrance, for his acceptance

*

Smothered by control, a tormented soul

trapped in his castle

Her tears rolling mist, proof she  exists

in snow white darkness

*

Clouds of confusion, rolled into illusion

He veils perversion, forcing her coercion

her body he takes, while she flies away

unbelieveable, she’s invisible

*

love is the shadow, that darkens her window

she’s crying for help, to escape her hell

Smothered by control, a tormented soul

trapped in his castle

Her tears rolling mist, proof she  exists

in snow white darkness

she hides in the fog, drinks hair of the dog

hates her behavior, craves one to save her
