The Wisdom in Avoiding Extremes

I admit it. I struggle with extremes. It’s that alll or nothing mentality. You either love me or you hate me. I’m a hopeless sinner or a forgiven saint. It’s all flesh, I know. But I struggle. Sometimes my emotions get the best of me. I act before I think. I jump in with both feet first with no consideration of the consequences. Sometimes that works, and other times I find myself drowning.

I don’t want to be reckless, or a wandering gypsy my whole life. I look back and I am amazed I am still here. I know there is a God – I am still breathing! I’m amazed at all that the Lord has brought me out of – depression, despair, violence, etc. My whole life has been covered with His mercy and grace. Every time I fell, He gently picked me up and led me out of the desert. He led me beside quiet waters. Now what do I do, lol? God give me wisdom.

What about you?

God’s Word for You:

Ecclesiastes 7:16-20 Do not be excessively righteous like those given to self-conceit, and do not be overly wise pretentious—why should you bring yourself to ruin? Do not be excessively or willfully wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time? It is good that you take hold of one thing righteousness and also not let go of the other wisdom; for the one who fears and worships God with awe-filled reverence will come forth with both of them. Wisdom strengthens the wise man more than ten rulers who are in a city. Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who always does good and who never sins.

Proverbs 4:5-9 “Get skillful and godly wisdom! Acquire understanding actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth. “Do not turn away from her Wisdom and she will guard and protect you; Love her, and she will watch over you. “The beginning of wisdom is: Get skillful and godly wisdom it is preeminent! And with all your acquiring, get understanding actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation. “Prize wisdom and exalt her, and she will exalt you; She will honor you if you embrace her. “She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty and glory.”

Proverbs 16-3

James 1:5-6 If any of you lacks wisdom to guide him through a decision or circumstance, he is to ask of our benevolent God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. But he must ask for wisdom in faith, without doubting God’s willingness to help, for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind.

My Prayer for You:

Dear Lord,

Help us with this wisdom stuff. Let us not be thrown about with the waves of our emotions. Feelings are so fickle Lord. Give us discernment to run every thought through your Word to see if it is true or not. Help us to reject the words that are not true and hold on to the promises You have given us. Lord, give us wisdom about the right way to go. Help us to stop and think. Help us to stop and wait for You to lead, in Jesus Name.

You Are an Arrow

As we sit here watching Lord of the Rings, I can’t help but think those were hard days to live in. There was always an enemy knocking at your door. There was always a battle to fight. People had to fight for their protection for their families, for their land, and fight to keep what they had.

According to the dictionary: ARROW is

  • a shaft sharpened at the front and with feathers or vanes at the back, shot from a bow as a weapon or for sport.
  • synonyms: shaft, bolt, dart
  • a mark or sign resembling an arrow, used to show direction or position; a pointer.
  • synonyms: pointer, indicator, marker, needles

Characteristics of Arrows

  1. They fly above the earth and its circumstances
  2. They destroy the enemy
  3. They must be pulled backwards under great tension
  4. They are supported by the Bow
  5. When the Master lets go they fly

God calls us His Arrows. He hold us in the palm of His hand. He points us in the right direction.  He hides us in His quiver until the time is right for battle. At just the right time He chooses us out of His quiver. Tensions increase as He loads us in His bow. Just when we think we can’t take it anymore He releases us and let’s us fly forward. He uses us to point others in the direction of His Kingdom. With the Word in our mouths we defeat enemies of God. He created us to show us His Glory!

Listen to Me, O islands and coastlands, And pay attention, you peoples from far away.

The Lord has called Me from the womb; From the body of My mother He has named Me.

He has made My mouth like a sharp sword, In the shadow of His hand He has kept Me hidden;

And He has made Me a sharpened arrow, In His quiver He has hidden Me.

And the Lord said to Me, “You are My Servant, Israel, In Whom I will show My glory.” – Isaiah 49:1-3

5 Ways Your Attitude Fuels Your Journey

As a man thinks, so he becomes. Have you ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy?  For example, someone way back when tells you a loser. You believe it. (even though it is not true). You start to act like a loser. You set yourself up for failure time and time again. The minute that things start to go well, you throw the other shoe first and quit. Just because you “know what will happen”.  I find I have lived much of my life upon the thoughts and beliefs of what other people have told me – even though it isn’t true! Growing for me means confronting these lies, replacing it with the Truth of God, and taking back my life.

Do you ever think about what you are thinking about?

What if our attitude was the fuel for our journey?

Is your tank full or are you running on empty?

5 Ways to Fuel Your Attitude

1.  Own it

Owning my attitude has helped me heal. It is empowering. Awp-1470579901420.jpgll of a sudden my  focus has shifted. When you own your attitude you own your life. People can be jerks, bit that is their choice, not mine. I can choose my attitude despite what they do or don’t do.  There is freedom in not having to please people. Just be yourself, I like that.

I have chosen you and have not cast you away:
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:9b-10 NKJV

2. Open it

Renewing my mind with the Word has helped me think better. I get to choose what I want to put in there. If I have a poor self image I need to open my mind to the idea that whatever I am thinking may not be true. Just because I thought it was true doesn’t mean that it is. There are people that have tried to put false words over my life. For a time I believed them. Today I know they were lies that I have believed. Just because someone said it does not make it true either.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. – Romans 12:2 NIV

3. Change it

Admitting that I may need to change my thoughts on some things has helped me grow. It’s ok to make a new choice and change my mind. If I am reading the Word and drinking the fresh Living Word, then I should change my mind about some things!

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,  casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,  and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. – 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 NKJV

4. Grow it

Giving myself room to grow and make mistakes along this journey has helped me become new.  With this space comes the ability to reassess and reevaluate my choices. It’s ok if things didn’t work out. That just tells me it’s time for a new choice!

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye. – Psalm 32:8 NKJV

5. Enjoy it

Not having to know all the answers helps me enjoy my life. I trust my God to lead me, comfort me, and direct my steps. Making the choice to trust God is a daily thing with me. That’s ok. That’s where I am at today. God is faithful. Everytime I turn to Him He answers. Yes, my attitude can fuel my life. Today I am learning to rest in God’s plans for my life and not my own. I don’t need to know all the answers ahead of time. I know Him who has the answers! Life can be such an adventure!

Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 1Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 NKJV

Divine Direction

Divine Direction. That’s what I want. A GOD GPS. Sign me up. Turn right on Salvation street. Pass by Heartache Ave. and Betrayal Blvd.

Have you ever Googled an address and ended up in the middle of a cornfield? I can’t tell you how many times this happened to me and my husband trying to get to a job. Most of the time it was a new customer, and we don’t want to be late. But naturally, those are the days when you are running behind anyway, type in the address in GPS, and end up on what might as well be another planet. Has this ever happened to you?

Then I call the customer, he or she laughs, and says, yeah that happens all the time. You really want to scream and punch their lights out at that point, but you smile, and ask directions on how to get there from where you are at.

Humility. Admitting I really don’t know and I am confused and lost at the moment. Not always the easiest thing to swallow that pride and ask for help. Yet, without help, we are lost. And will never get to our destination.

I was reading a blog the other day and commented that I wish I knew the answers. I wish I knew what to do when and how to fix it. Then life would be easy. I would just do it, and be done with it. And I wouldn’t have to trust anyone to help me.

But then God reminded me. I couldn’t do this journey alone – I tried. And fell flat on my face. And I was lonely and misrable and wanted to end it all. Yeah, that wasn’t the best road. So I asked Him for help. I admitted I was lost and didn’t know my way. I admitted I really didn’t KNOW Him, I knew about Him, but I didn’t know Him. And I didn’t know how to get there from where I was.

I may not have all the answers today. I really don’t know how some things are going to turn out. I am pressed but not crushed, persecuted but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed. But today, I know HIM – and I trust Him, and that is enough for me.

Can I say that was the beginning of my love affair? He is faithful, He is true, He is loving, and kind, and encourages me. He lifts my head and gives me hope when I want to quit. He rejoices over me with singing and calls me the Apple of His Eye. He calls me Beloved – even when I don’t feel that way.  And His love is greater than all of my failed directions, hands down.

He even has my name engraved on the palms of His hands.

And guess what?

I saw your name there too…

Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands; [O Zion] your walls are continually before Me. (Isaiah 49:16 AMP)
