My Cup Overflows in 2014

In my morning time with The Lord, I asked what is this coming year going to be about? What will 2014 bring to your people Lord? He directed me to Genesis 1. So I started reading.

“In the beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:1-3 AMP)

Now I can relate to that. I have felt a little empty and formless this past year! And man, I know the darkness! And yet, the Spirit of God was hovering and moving and even brooding over the waters.

Have you felt God’s presence hovering over you?

So I kept reading…

“And God saw that the light was good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it; and God separated the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
And God said, Let there be a firmament [the expanse of the sky] in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters [below] from the waters [above].
And God made the firmament [the expanse] and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse. And it was so.
And God called the firmament Heavens. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.” (Genesis 1:4-8 AMP)

The interesting thing that I never saw before is that God had to separate the waters to place the Heavens. It reminded me of Moses and that great scene in the Ten Commandments Movie. The waters didn’t stop moving, they flow from above and from below.

And the Word God gave me for 2014:
“MY CUP OVERFLOWS”

Psalm 23:5

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with [a]oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.

Footnotes:

Psalm 23:5 It is difficult for those living in a temperate climate to appreciate, but it was customary in hot climates to anoint the body with oil to protect it from excessive perspiration. When mixed with perfume, the oil imparted a delightfully refreshing and invigorating sensation. Athletes anointed their bodies as a matter of course before running a race. As the body, therefore, anointed with oil was refreshed, invigorated, and better fitted for action, so the Lord would anoint His “sheep” with the Holy Spirit, Whom oil symbolizes, to fit them to engage more freely in His service and run in the way He directs—in heavenly fellowship with Him.
