Why Dance with Death?

I recently started a new book from my Pastor. It’s written by a Pastor Tim Baker, and it’s called DEWITCHED – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE DANGERS OF WICCA & WITCHCRAFT. It’s written from a Christian Perspective and compares Christianity, Wicca, and Satanism.

dewitched

I have teenagers. And I have worked in the school district. Have you been to a Scholastic Book Fair lately? How about the Young Adult Section at the library? Wicca and Witchcraft books abound. They are enticing our children, and this is one mom who says NO! So, I am arming myself – and preparing for battle. Our children’s lives are at sake, and their salvation. I admit, I used to be ignorant. No more. Our children are reading about it at school. Yeah, really. It’s time we wake up.

Here is an excerpt from GoodReads:

Wicca is the fastest-growing religion on today’s college campuses, and is even featured on the covers of popular teen magazines. Christian teens need to know what to believe when it comes to witchcraft. Dewitched equips teens to carry on intelligent conversation with someone from a Wiccan background, know how to defend their faith to a Wiccan, and notice signs of Wicca or witchcraft in their culture.

Dewitched is the must-have resource for any teen, youth pastor, or parent who wants good solid information and advice from a Christian perspective about this popular but dangerous religion.

We all worship something. Some of us worship God, some worship Mother Earth and other gods/godesses, some worship Satan – but we all worship. We all follow something/someone. We all have a ‘code’ we live by. And we all get to choose.  I am not here to dishonor your choice. Your choice is your choice. And my choice is my choice. I would ask you to honor that as well.

After my post about How To Recognize a Witch That Comes to Church I had a very good conversation with a member of Wicca. She was kind and helped me understand their beliefs. I am not her Holy Spirit, and she is not mine. Thank you Cat for your comments. But today, more than ever we need to know what we believe an why we believe it.

According to DEWITCHED,  in Wicca they believe there is more fight for joythan one God. They believe there may be many gods or goddesses.  This may be based in old Celtic religion. Wiccans do talk to dead spirits/family members. I don’t understand why someone would want to talk to a dead spirit. They are dead! To me that is dancing with death.

Also from the book, Wiccans usually meet outside and worship there with circles and pentagrams. There is a ceremony. They honor and worship the earth. They will use objects for their magic and create personal spell books.  They may take objects from someone who they are trying to convert. In the book there was a ceremony using a lock of hair, an object from another person,  and then they sealed it with their blood claiming that this person join their coven. Wiccans believe in magic (or magik) and harness this power/energy when they perform their rituals. This energy may be used for good, or for evil, it is up to the Witch.

In the book, Wiccans  may go to church, and then make friends with other teens there. Even attend youth group. But then they will ask their new friends to come to one of their services. Or maybe they will ask your teen if they could do a tarot card reading, read an ‘aura’, or practice exiting your body and going into another plane of existence. It may start as simply as giving your teen a pentagram necklace to peak their curiosity. But I am only on Chapter 11, so I’ll have to fill you in on the ending…

It’s real, and it’s time we talk about it church. Because our kids are.

holy spirit

Yes, we all get to make our own choice. And again, it is up to each of us. As a parent I want to train my child in the way to go so when he/she is older they will not depart from it.  It’s not about who goes to church on Sunday; it’s about who has a relationship with Jesus Christ, the ONE and only true God. He is the Author of LIFE and lives in them and through them. I want my kids to know Him, to love Him and follow Him. Let them be a witness and a prayer warrior/warrioress. Let  them to be the one their friends come to when they need prayer because they know that God hears their prayers and answers.

Children of the King, who have received the deposit on their inheritance already; children who have been adopted into the family of God, no longer orphans, no longer comfortless – but comforted and secure in who they are in Christ. Children who know that they have been redeemed and forgiven by the blood of Jesus; children who know that Jesus died on the Cross for their sins. That His death was a substitute for theirs – yes, the Passover Lamb. And now, there is no need to be afraid. The price was paid for our disobedience.

Children who have been baptized in the NAME OF JESUS, and who hold within them the Power of the Living God with the Holy Spirit. Children who talk in tongues and bring the Kingdom of Heaven to the Kingdom of Earth. Children who are led by Jesus Himself! And greater is the One who is in us that he who is in the world!

Are You Ready for Your Suddenly?

Suddenly – that is the Word I woke up with in my spirit today. Suddenly can mean:

  • quickly or unexpectedly
  • a happening without warning or delay
  • instantly, all of a sudden
  • all at once, or instantaneously

Things can change in a day, in an hour, in a moment. God is a good Father and He loves to surprise His kids!  Don’t you love surprises? I had the pleasure of taking my youngest daughter out dress shopping last night at the mall. For Valentine’s Day her boyfriend is taking her out to a special restaurant but he won’t tell her where. He wants to surprise her. I don’t know if she or I had more fun finding the perfect dress. And then the shoes, and still to do – the jewelry.

Remember young love? How we loved to surprise each other out of the blue. I remember. And I think I need to get a surprise ready for my love. We all love surprises right? Totally unexpected blessings from out of nowhere? That got me thinking –  What does God do suddenly?

SUDDENLY

The Lord speaks to us

Suddenly the Lord said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, Come out, you three, to the Tent of Meeting. And the three of them came out. (Numbers 12:4)

The Lord changes things

Thus Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, because of what God had prepared for the people, for it was done suddenly. (2 Chronicles 29:36)

The Lord delivers us from our enemies

Let all my enemies be ashamed and sorely troubled; let them turn back and be put to shame suddenly. (Psalm 6:10)

But God will shoot an unexpected arrow at them; and suddenly shall they be wounded. (Psalm 64:7)

But the multitude of your [enemy] strangers that assail you shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the ruthless and terrible ones like chaff that blows away. And in an instant, suddenly, You shall be visited and delivered by the Lord of hosts with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a devouring fire. (Isaiah 29:5-6)

Riches and Kingdoms disappear

Will you set your eyes upon wealth, when [suddenly] it is gone? For riches certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flies toward the heavens. (Proverbs 23:5)

O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? says the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel. At one time I will suddenly speak concerning a nation or kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it;  And if [the people of] that nation concerning which I have spoken turn from their evil, I will relent and reverse My decision concerning the evil that I thought to do to them. (Jeremiah 18:6-8)

The Lord acts on His Word

I have declared from the beginning the former things [which happened in times past to Israel]; they went forth from My mouth and I made them known; then suddenly I did them, and they came to pass [says the Lord]. (Isaiah 48:3)

The Spirit of the Lord shows you visions

Immediately and suddenly there appeared the fingers of a man’s hand and wrote on the plaster of the wall opposite the candlestick [so exposed especially to the light] in the king’s palace, and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. (Daniel 5:5)

The Lord heals you

And immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and [suddenly] she felt in her body that she was healed of her [distressing] ailment. (Mark 5:29)

An Angel of the Lord is sent to us with messages

Then suddenly there appeared with the angel an army of the troops of heaven (a heavenly knighthood), praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest [heaven], and on earth peace among men with whom He is well pleased [men of goodwill, of His favor]. (Luke 2:13-14)

And while they were perplexed and wondering what to do about this, behold, two men in dazzling raiment suddenly stood beside them. (Luke 24:4)

And while they were gazing intently into heaven as He went, behold, two men [dressed] in white robes suddenly stood beside them, Who said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing into heaven? This same Jesus, Who was caught away and lifted up from among you into heaven, will return in [just] the same way in which you saw Him go into heaven. (Acts 1:10-11)

The Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit falls

When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them. (Acts 2: 2-3)

The Lord appears to us in our everyday lives

Then on the next day he suddenly appeared to some who were quarreling and fighting among themselves, and he urged them to make peace and become reconciled, saying, Men, you are brethren; why do you abuse and wrong one another? (Acts 7:26)

The Lord transports us

And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord [suddenly] caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, and he went on his way rejoicing. (Acts 8:39)

Now as he traveled on, he came near to Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him, And he fell to the ground. Then he heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me [harassing, troubling, and molesting Me]? (Acts 9:3-4)

And Cornelius said, This is now the fourth day since about this time I was observing the ninth hour (three o’clock in the afternoon) of prayer in my lodging place; [suddenly] a man stood before me in dazzling apparel, And he said, Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and harkened to, and your donations to the poor have been known and [a]preserved before God [so that He heeds and is about to help you]. (Acts 10:30-31)

But as I was on my journey and approached Damascus, about noon a great blaze of light flashed suddenly from heaven and shone about me. (Acts 22:6)

The Lord moves the Earth to deliver us

And suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared [standing beside him], and a light shone in the place where he was. And the angel gently smote Peter on the side and awakened him, saying, Get up quickly! And the chains fell off his hands. (Acts 12:7)

Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the very foundations of the prison were shaken; and at once all the doors were opened and everyone’s shackles were unfastened. (Acts 16:26)

The Lord returns

For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the [return of the] Lord will come [as unexpectedly and suddenly] as a thief in the night. (1 Thessalonians 5:2)

Are you ready for your “suddenly”?

God Makes No Logical Sense – 7 Kingdom Rules that Defy Logic

seek

God really does not make any logical sense.

1+1 does not equal 2 in the Kingdom of God.

This whole Kingdom thing, the invisible becomes visible.

The real is not real.

The dead live.

Life is everlasting. We don’t die – we just fall asleep till Jesus comes back.

Jesus resurrected from the dead. He brings life.

Wow, you either believe or you don’t . But don’t expect it to  to make any sense logically. Seriously. It will not make sense in your head. That’s why they call it faith. You can’t prove it. but you can see it – like the wind. You can see what it does and where it goes by the way things move. It just is. Either you believe it or you don’t.

7 KINGDOM RULES THAT DEFY LOGIC:

1.  Division means multiplication.

Remember the bread and the loaves? Divide it, break it,  and it multiplies. Yeah. I think my math teacher was wrong! And hey, I guess I should have skipped that Calculus class, lol!

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand

2.  Subtracting means addition.

Remember Gideon and 20,000 to 10,000 to 300 with empty jars and trumpets? Here is a refresher. I had to read it again too. I just remembered God made absolutely no logical sense in this story, and I loved it!

Gideon Defeats the Midianites

3. Praise brings Victory – not killing each other.

Remember Jericho? Walk around a wall for 6 days and give a mighty shout. And on the 7th day – God brought down the walls! And the enemy was defeated with a shout! That makes no sense, but I love it!

Joshua 6

4.  The swords we use are not made of metal – but are the Word of God.

Kingdoms are thrown down – by the Word. Princes, Principalities, Powers  are defeated – by the Word.

The Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God,so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvationand the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.  Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,  for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. (Ephesians 6:10-20 NIV)

5.  Jesus brings life, and life more abundantly – not money, fame, fortune, or relatives.

Yeah. Life in the world is at war with life in the Spirit. That’s just how it is. Want money, fame, fortune? Welcome to the world. Want eternal life? Then deny yourself, take up your cross, and as He said, “Follow me.” Life isn’t measured the same in the Kingdom of God.

6.  The Blood of Jesus brings life – not death.

In the world of logic, when someone bleeds to death they die. The life is in the blood. In Jesus case – his blood brings life, and life more abundantly! His blood protects us. His blood heals us.  In the horror movies blood brings death. But in the Kingdom of God, Jesus blood brings LIFE! Forget not all his benefits:

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. (Psalm 103:1-6 NIV)

7.  God SPEAKS things into existence.  And so can we.

God said, ” Let there be light. And there was light.” Out of the mouth flows the abundance of the heart.  The power of life and death is in the tongue. What are you talking about today?  How sick you are? How bad you feel? How broke you are? Change your words. I had to start saying what God said. My mouth had to get into agreement with what God said, not what I felt. I am blessed. I have more than enough. My cup runs over. I am the head and not the tail. I will lend to many nations. I am loved. I am chosen. I am wanted. Out of all the people on Earth GOD chose us to be His! And then things changed.

Precious – Teen Bible Study

Precious. More than Lord of the Rings. More than that. You are precious to me. And you are precious to God. Really? Really. Precious, Chosen, Loved, Known, Treasured and Adopted by God.

This was new to me.  I always thought I was all those words the ‘other guy’ said.  Nope.  Doesn’t matter what he said.  God calls us precious. Having value to Him – because He made us – for Himself.  Now that sure changes things doesn’t it?  Value based on WHO made us, because He said so. Thank you Lord!

PRECIOUS:

1. (of an object, substance, or resource) of great value; not to be wasted or treated carelessly.

Synonyms: valuable, costly, expensive; invaluable, priceless, beyond price.

2. greatly loved or treasured by someone.
Synonyms: valued, cherished, treasured, prized, favorite, dear, dearest, beloved, darling, adored, loved, special.

Blessed – Teen Bible Study

Blessed.   Yes we are blessed. We are blessed on the inside and blessed on the outside. Blessed in our coming and blessed in our going.  I pray that God restores to you any and everything you have lost, in Jesus Name.  You are blessed!

God, release these blessings upon your people today, in Jesus Name!

If you will listen diligently to the voice of the Lord your God, being watchful to do all His commandments which I command you this day, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you heed the voice of the Lord your God.

Blessed shall you be in the city and blessed shall you be in the field.

Blessed shall be the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your beasts, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock.

Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading trough.

Blessed shall you be when you come in and blessed shall you be when you go out.

The Lord shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.

The Lord shall command the blessing upon you in your storehouse and in all that you undertake. And He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

The Lord will establish you as a people holy to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.

And all people of the earth shall see that you are called by the name [and in the presence of] the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you.

And the Lord shall make you have a surplus of prosperity, through the fruit of your body, of your livestock, and of your ground, in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers to give you.

The Lord shall open to you His good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.

And the Lord shall make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall be above only, and you shall not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you this day and are watchful to do them. (Deuteronomy 28: 1-13 AMP)

Married – Teen Bible Study

Married – to God, that’s what we are talking about today.  This post is probably not going to be the most popular – oh well.  I know our country is in flux about what Marriage is and what it is not.  And what is legal – or not.  Like a Pastor told me once,

“Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right.”

So is Marriage a law? A covenant? A promise? An arrangement?  I guess we have to determine what the word means first.  It seems everyone has their own definition these days.  Change the definition to fit what you want to do with it right? Yeah, that’s working great – not! Welcome to the world…

My job as a Sunday School Teacher is to present what the Bible says about marriage. How does God define Marriage?  And then each child will have to make their own choices.  In the Bible, marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman. There is no gay marriage in the Bible. It doesn’t exist.

Loved – Teen Bible Study

Loved. Now there is a can of worms.  Pray for me today while I try and share the difference between love and lust.  There are so many voices telling us “I love you”.  But not all of them are telling the truth.  What is love – really?  What does God define it as?  We all want to be loved.

Adopted – Teen Bible Study

Adopted. By God. Really? I have to admit, this lesson was hard for me to write. I am still learning about the Father’s Love. It is so different that what I have experienced here in the world. Yet I trust Abba Father, for a fresh revelation of His Love – for all of us today, in Jesus Name.

agapeloveAgape love

1. In a state of wonder or amazement – like with mouth wide open
2. A love feast
3. Wide open – gaping
4. Love that is Spiritual, not sexual

Astounded, Expectant, Surprised, Astonished

Here is more from Wikipedia and Greek Words for Love:

There are a few Greek words for love, as the Greek language distinguishes how the word is used. Ancient Greek has four distinct words for love: agápe, éros, philía, and storgē. However, as with other languages, it has been historically difficult to separate the meanings of these words. Nonetheless, the senses in which these words were generally used are given below.

1. Agápe (ἀγάπη agápē[1]) means love in a “spiritual” sense. In the term s’agapo (Σ’αγαπώ), which means “I love you” in Ancient Greek, it often refers to a general affection or deeper sense of “true unconditional love” rather than the attraction suggested by “eros.” This love is selfless; it gives and expects nothing in return. Agape is used in the biblical passage known as the “love chapter,” 1 Corinthians 13, and is described there and throughout the New Testament as sacrificial and spiritual love. Whether the love given is returned or not, the person continues to love (even without any self-benefit). Agape is also used in ancient texts to denote feelings for one’s children and the feelings for a spouse, and it was also used to refer to a love feast. It can also be described as the feeling of being content or holding one in high regard. Agape is used by Christians to express the unconditional love of God.

2. Éros (ἔρως érōs[2]) is “physical” passionate love, with sensual desire and longing. Romantic, pure emotion without the balance of logic. “Love at first sight”. The Modern Greek word “erotas” means “intimate love;” however, eros does not have to be sexual in nature. Eros can be interpreted as a love for someone whom you love more than the philia, love of friendship. It can also apply to dating relationships as well as marriage. Plato refined his own definition: Although eros is initially felt for a person, with contemplation it becomes an appreciation of the beauty within that person, or even becomes appreciation of beauty itself. Plato does not talk of physical attraction as a necessary part of love, hence the use of the word platonic to mean, “without physical attraction.” In the Symposium, the most famous ancient work on the subject, Plato has Socrates argue that eros helps the soul recall knowledge of beauty, and contributes to an understanding of spiritual truth, the ideal “Form” of youthful beauty that leads us humans to feel erotic desire – thus suggesting that even that sensually based love aspires to the non-corporeal, spiritual plane of existence; that is, finding its truth, just like finding any truth, leads to transcendence. Lovers and philosophers are all inspired to seek truth through the means of eros.

3. Philia (φιλία philía) is “mental” love. It means affectionate regard or friendship in both ancient and modern Greek. This type of love has give and take. It is a dispassionate virtuous love, a concept developed by Aristotle. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and community, and requires virtue, equality and familiarity. In ancient texts, philos denoted a general type of love, used for love between family, between friends, a desire or enjoyment of an activity, as well as between lovers.

4. Storge (στοργή storgē) means “affection” in ancient and modern Greek. It is natural affection, like that felt by parents for offspring. Rarely used in ancient works, and then almost exclusively as a descriptor of relationships within the family. It is also known to express mere acceptance or putting up with situations, asin “loving” the tyrant.

He Knows Us – Teen Bible Study

He knows us. Inside and out. And chose us. Before the world began to be part of the family. He knows our name and our voice.
And  we know His voice.  Voices and choices, that is what this bible study is about. We all hear voices from lots of places these days. Especially in this Internet Age.  Lots of voices. Lots of choices.

But which voices do you listen to?

How do you determine who is for you and who is against you?

God says we know His voice and like a sheep  we recognize the Shepherds voice.

Do we listen?

What happens if we don’t listen?

Can we make a new choice?

I am grateful that He knows our voice too.  Nothing like giving Him a ‘call’ just to talk…

KNOWN

TOMMY WALKER – HE KNOWS MY NAME

I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands

I have a Father
He calls me His own
He’ll never leave me
No matter where I go

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call

So, what’s the Good News?  God has chosen YOU for his family.  It happened even before you were born.  From the womb He called you and knew your name.

I started writing a Bible Study for our teen class at Church.  I think on Sunday’s I will share these with you.  Feel free to download and use.  God bless you!
