Abandoned house
Covered with vines
Choking out life
That was inside

Covering foundation
Are weeds of confusion
Pretending to be flowers
Masking evil delusions

Creaking doors open
As memories scream
The broken windows
Reflect shattered dreams

Wind echoes down the hall
Traveling room to room
Looking to bring life again
And pull Death up by its roots

“See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”(Hebrews 12:15 NIV)

“Work at getting along with each other and with God. Otherwise you’ll never get so much as a glimpse of God. Make sure no one gets left out of God’s generosity. Keep a sharp eye out for weeds of bitter discontent. A thistle or two gone to seed can ruin a whole garden in no time. Watch out for the Esau syndrome: trading away God’s lifelong gift in order to satisfy a short-term appetite. You well know how Esau later regretted that impulsive act and wanted God’s blessing—but by then it was too late, tears or no tears.” (Hebrews 12:14-17 MSG)

“When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building. Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them.” (Acts 2:1-4 MSG)

Here is a great Bible Study that talks about how rape and abuse opens the door for a Root of Bitterness
