Hey all, I hope you are doing well and open to new ideas today. I have been on Disability (See post here) for 5 years now. Man, time flies. What I used to do for work is not in my ability today. Sometimes I have a tendency of looking back and trying to be the old me. But I guess there is no redo’s on that. I want to stop living my life backwards.
How to Stop from Living Your Life Backwards
- Acknowledge that you are even looking backwards. It’s not bad, or good, it’s just different. Life moves on every day. Life is like a river it keeps flowing. I had to decide if I wanted to swim with the current or against the current.
- “If you try to fight the rip current and swim against it, you’ll just get worn out. Instead – float! If you’re a good swimmer, swim parallel to shore until you’ve cleared the pull of the rip current. Swim with the waves, allowing them to push you to shore.” – source oceantoday.noaa.gov/
- Find a way to be thankful for one good thing today, right now in this moment.
- “Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].” Philippians 4:8 AMP
- Ask God to help you know the vision He has for you, right now and in the future. I had to ask God to help me dream again. After living through so much trauma, I had given up on dreams and happy endings. I would not even watch the Hallmark Channel because relationships always worked out there. That was not my experience. With time, the Lord has given me a fresh filling up of faith. God is a good, good God.
- “But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6
- Choose to trust God. I had a hard time with trust. I seemed to give everyone all my trust all the time to those who abused me. I had made a choice to trust them with my naïve thoughts. Then I would be sad and mad when the other person did something to break my trust. I found I was trusting my significant other more than God. I had given my trust to someone who did not, nor ever will be able to receive it. Yes, there were a lot of Narcissists in my past.
- “Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart
And do not rely on your own insight or understanding” Proverbs 3:5 AMP
- “Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart
- Stay present, in the moment. Be joyful for the good, and give the rest to God to deal with. Sometimes we can’t change our current situation. We can, however, change our vision and change our thoughts.
- “Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].”
- Just as I accepted the back things that happened to me, I had to learn that God would bring new things that would give me hope. Here is my go to verse:
- “For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
- Journal (or blog) your way to move forward and be excited about what is to come. God is with you, wherever you go. There is hope! (read more here) God promised never to leave us or forsake us. He promised to go before us and lead the way.
- “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30 AMP
- Let the Lord guide your vision and dreams. Ask Him to show you what comes nest. He is doing a new thing with you now, even if it doesn’t look like that right now.
- “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing,
Now it will spring forth;
Will you not be aware of it?
I will even put a road in the wilderness,
Rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19 AMP
- “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing,
- Praise the Lord. Give God thanks in all you do, in all your ways acknowledge Him. Praise your way through the calamities. Praise the way God is in your life today. Praise God for being faithful, and true. Praise takes our eyes off of the enemy, and our current situation and puts it back in God’s Hands. God’s mercies are new every morning.
- “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV
- “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
