How to Get Past Your Fear and Find Your Anchor

I’m so tired of being fearful. How about you? Every time I turn on the news I cringe in fear. I am afraid that more people are going to get shot, fear that the hate is going to continue with the violent protests and the massive shootings. There are more and more people that

Many false prophets will appear and mislead many.  Because lawlessness is increased, the love of most people will grow cold. But the one who endures and bears up [under suffering] to the end will be saved. This good news of the kingdom [the gospel] will be preached throughout the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end [of the age] will come. – Matthew 24:12-14 AMP

When I think of an anchor I think of a boat. Yeah, it’s that big metal thing you throw overboard to stop and stay in one place. Anchors give us a source of stability and strength as they fix us in a place in the middle of the wild waves of a storm. We all face plenty of storms these days, with the pandemic, the mass shootings, the hate all around us, etc. I don’t know about you, but I need an anchor to hold me safe and strong to God and His Word. In the storms of this life I need some hope. The Bible tells us that HOPE is our anchor and we can enter the most Holy Place of God with that hope!

This hope [this confident assurance] we have as an anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whatever pressure bears upon it]—a safe and steadfast hope that enters within the veil [of the heavenly temple, that most Holy Place in which the very presence of God dwells], where Jesus has entered [in advance] as a forerunner for us, having become a High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. – Hebrews 6:19-20 AMP

I love this song by David Crowder – The Anchor

Lyrics

For anyone battered
For any heart shattered
For anyone sinkin’ down
Hold on, hold on
For all of the sinners
For the weary and weathered
Thrown and tossed, hope is lost
Hold on, hold on

There’s an anchor
In the rage of the storm
When the walls are closin’ in
In the darkness all alone
Just prayin’ for the daylight
Peace for the soul
There is grace for the mornin’
When you feel like letting go
There’s an anchor
There’s an anchor

To all who have faltered
There is an altar
And bring your plea on bended knee
Bow down, bow down
All you sons and daughters
Run to the Father
You’re not too far from open arms
Come home, come home

‘Cause there is an anchor
In the rage of the storm
When the walls are closin’ in
In the darkness all alone
Just prayin’ for the daylight
Peace for the soul
There’s grace for the mornin’
When you feel like letting go
Oh, there is an anchor
There’s an anchor
Ooh, there’s an anchor, ooh-oh
There is an anchor, oh, oh, oh

Just a touch, You calm me
Just a whisper, You love me
Without judgement, You hold me
No one ever has known me
You made me

There’s an anchor
Holdin’ time in His hands
A rock you can stand on
A mercy without end
Ooh, a love that’s eternal
Bore all of our sin
A King that is comin’
The Great I Am

He is the anchor
Oh, He is the anchor, oh
Ooh, He is the anchor
Oh-oh, He is the anchor
Of my soul

He is the anchor
He is the anchor
Of my soul
He is the anchor

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

And through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you.

When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched,

Nor will the flame burn you. – Isaiah 43:2 AMP
