Five More Minutes – Learning to Let Go Without Letting Love Go

My mom Linda Roelle passed away on September 11, 2012 in Reno, NV. It was a really hard time for all of us and I still miss her terribly every day.

Here is a song I wrote to remember her. We all have people we have loved and lost. But remember, they may have passed from this Earth – but the love we have for them lives on. Love never dies…

FIVE MORE MINUTES

Copyright 2026 Diana Rasmussen

[Verse 1]

I’m begging the sun for one more moment of moonlight,

One more chance to hold what slipped away.

The night keeps whispering your name in the silence,

While morning tells me I must face another day.

[Pre-Chorus]

The tighter I cling to the grief inside me,

The bigger the shadow it leaves behind.

I know I can’t keep you here beside me,

But letting go feels like leaving you behind.

[Chorus]

All I want is five more minutes,

Just five more minutes in your light.

One more goodbye I never got to give you,

One more “I love you” before goodnight.

Maybe someday these tears will turn to memories,

And memories will teach my heart to heal.

But until heaven gives me five more minutes,

I’ll hold on to the love I still feel

[Verse 2]

We walk this earth for the time we’re given,

Like travelers passing through the years.

Then we return to the dust beneath us,

Leaving behind our laughter and our tears.

[Pre-Chorus]

How can you be so close and yet so far?

I reach for you, but touch an empty space.

The only voice I hear is the one that’s missing,

And I still look for you in every familiar place.

[Bridge]

But sometimes in the quiet,

When the world has gone to sleep,

A memory comes back like a river

Running somewhere underneath.

I hear your laugh, I see your face,

For a moment you’re not gone.

Then the memory fades with the darkness,

And I have to carry on.

[Chorus]

All I want is five more minutes,

Just five more minutes in your light.

One more goodbye I never got to give you,

One more “I love you” before goodnight.

Maybe someday these tears will turn to memories,

And memories will teach my heart to heal.

But until heaven gives me five more minutes,

I’ll hold on to the love I still feel.

[Outro]

So I’ll beg the sun for one more moment of moonlight,

And whisper your name into the night.

Five more minutes…

That’s all I need.

Five more minutes…

Before I let you leave.
