Do You Hear the Children Crying?

© 2013 Diana Rasmussen

Do you hear the children crying
As they scream up and down the halls?
They know daddy hits their mommy
and they watch her as she falls
*
They run to her side daily
till Daddy comes in the room
Then it’s time to run and hide
the next one’s coming soon
*
They say, “God please help my mommy
she needs you Lord today
cuz Daddy’s mad and I’m so sad
he says ‘she’s gonna pay’
*
Why God don’t you kill him?
just stop him in his tracks?
Protect us Lord, we need you now
before he starts to smack”
*
Finally Mommy dials 9-1-1
she made it to the phone
They take Daddy off to jail
and tell us now to run.

  1. My heart is touched beyond what words can describe. thank you for posting this and helping shed light on how deeply this problem runs.

    Blessings,
    Marlene

    • Thank you Marlene. We have so many programs that helped the abused person and the abuser. I just wish we would turn our focus more to the children. In my opinion, they are the innocent victims who are learning harmful ways of dealing with things. And they often get lost in the full picture of Abuse. I shared this poem on one of my previous posts with the pictures that my children had colored – they were 6 and 3 at the time. That was the ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ in my life. When I saw what they were seeing, I could not go back to the abuser. It was a turning point for me and my journey. Here is the post and their pictures:

God bless you and keep you! Diana

      • Oh’ Diana, I have read and re-read this one and looked at those pictures from all possbile angels. My heart is broken. I feel tender mercies carrying you and them through such a difficult season. I can’t tell you how thankful I am to hear you left. You’re so right, kids never ever should witness any of this. The impact goes farther than we could ever imagine. I will remember this one for sure and will become an advocate as well. Especially for the children. You did well. SO proud of you! And praying for God’s peace, restoration and healing for those little minds, eyes, ears and hearts.

        Hugs & Prayers,
        Marlene

        • Thank you Marlene, I really appreciate your prayers. God moves mountains when we pray. And I am grateful that you will speak up as well – thank you! God bless you sis, Diana

        • Hey Diana, by the way, I’d love, love, love to ask you to (Guest post ) on Journey of Joy — your story if you don’t mind? I prefer devotions, but I would love to have your story (testimony) in about 400-500words of how God got you out? This category would be under [Stories of Grace]. If you are up for it, let me know and I’ll send you my email address to discuss a bit?

          Many thanks,
          Marlene

        • I would love to Marlene. Give me a day or two to get things down and I’ll send it your way. Stories of Grace – now that’s appropriate!

Thank you for the opportunity to share – your blog is beautiful…

          Diana
