And now for our (optional) prompt. Anaphora is a literary term for the practice of repeating certain words or phrases at the beginning of multiple clauses or, in the case of a poem, multiple lines. The phrase “A time to,” as used in the third Chapter of Ecclesiastes, is a good example of anaphora.

THE RIGHT TIME

The changing of the seasons is always such a great relief. Its one of the few constants in life we can rely on. At times we get trapped by a negative season that seems to last too long. The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us that time and chance (created by God when thorns and thistles entered the world) will happen to us all. “No person knows what tomorrow will reveal, as fish are caught in a cruel net or birds are captured in a snare so people are trapped by terrible times that fall unexpectedly upon them.” The photos that people often put up with “beautiful in its time” are rainbows, flowers and butterflies but the list in Ecclesiastes also includes death, destruction, hate and war. In a twisted and unjust world we sometimes get the short end of the stick. Ecclesiastes tells us he has seen “the righteous get what the wicked deserve and the wicked get what the righteous deserve.” He points out that its not fair and in the section right after the time poem he brings God into the picture “for there also will be a time to evaluate every activity, a time to judge every deed.”
It is difficult to wait through a negative season of life.
What a beautiful poem, our circumstances are different, but like you I am waiting for my season to pass too. Its been a year and what you wrote touched my heart. God bless you – and thank you for your heartfelt words.
