The Power of a Friend’s Prayer

Remember that story in the Bible where a man’s friends go through the roof to see Jesus. The man was paralyzed. I always thought this was in the physical realm. But what if the man was paralyzed by fear? What if he was paralyzed by disbelief?

Our family has recently gone through a trial – too personal to share here. And I admit it – I was paralyzed with fear. I tried to pray. I tried to read the Word. But my brain was fried. Nothing stuck.

I have learned that in times of trials I have to reach out to a few people and ask them to pray for me and my family. I had to be honest with someone and share what was going on. And then they would pray.

Just like the man on the mat, sometimes we need friends to bring us to Jesus.

God has answered their prayers. Our trial is almost over. I am eternally grateful for friends that will bring me through the roof and into the presence of Jesus. Thank you Lord. God bless all my friends Lord!

Mark 2:1-12

 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 

Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

  3. Wow…what wonderful words of wisdom and truth! Something I can so relate to currently in my life and one other major time in my life. Events in our lives can sometimes make it seem like life stands still and those are the times we need others to lift us and help carry the burdens in prayer that we’re experiencing. I am so thankful that the Lord has provided a few of those special people in my life to help lift me in prayer. God bless!

  5. When my husband first left I was broken and paralyzed with fear. I was terrified with being left with nothing. With all that was going on I was so ashamed. I had been suffering in secret for along while but at the very end my husband had started denying me food. I really knew that Id couldn’t take it much longer. I started to think I was goi dzng crazy. So after he left I did muster up enough courage to go and ask a neighbor for help. I was in such pain and brokenness I didn’t know how or what to pray. I came across a blog and the author prayed for me and asked others to pray too. I honestly agree with you when we are so broken and in so much pain asking someone to pray on your behalf is away of getting those prayers to God. It also made me realize that I wasn’t alone. That I mattered and people cared. Just the fact that someone took my prayers to God and taught me how to trust God and people gave me such peace. That was my first steps toward healing, the power of a friends prayer

    • You have been through so much my friend. Thank you for sharing your testimony of the goodness of God and His people. I was humbled too when I had to ask for help. But I learned the same thing as you – we are not alone. We need each other just as much as we need God. I am grateful we are in the same family of God and can help each other through this journey called life. I pray God’s abundance and peace upon you my frined.       • Diana what I realized in the very beginning is that we are God’s hands on earth we are to take care of each other just like God would. That is the greatest lesson I’ve learned in all of this that we are to love each other and live our lives so that Gods presence is alive on the earth. We are to be His words in action. I really love that, I love that I understand it now.😘
