In Search of an [extra]Ordinary Life

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about ministry. Real life, honest-to-goodness “ministry.”

What is it?

How do we do it?

What does it look like?

I work with college students. I not only work with college students, I live with them. And by live with them I mean that my professional, full-time job is to live in a residence hall with 238 underclassmen girls. That, of course, is the most simplistic, least descriptive way there is of describing my job (so much so that it almost pains me to write it) but, nevertheless, it is the foundational element to my profession.

Let me offer an inadequate sampling of what this looks like:

Calls and knocks on my door at all hours of the day and night.

Crises ranging from overflowing toilets to suicide attempts.

Endless intramural sports.

Awkward, uncomfortable and incredible, encouraging conversations.

Girl drama and roommate conflicts.
