“It’s not about being comfortable.” ~ Diana Rasmussen

Soul Survivor

Diana Rasmussen is a Soul Survivor. She plays live at the local coffee shops and her original songs focus on overcoming adversity, breaking free from domestic violence, and living beyond depression. Fans have called her songs, “haunting, powerful, and edgy”. Diana sounds like Annie Lennox and Bonnie Raitt, and there is a raw honesty about her lyrics. Diana has many TOP 10 AWARDS from Broadjam, Inc. in the Country, Folk, Jazz, and World Categories.

Currently Diana leads the Worship Team at Janesville Apostolic Ministries in Janesville, WI. She has been blessed to play with her husband Bob, and sing with many Anointed Singers. Diana has been a Music Minister for the last 20 years in various churches, shelters, nursing homes, and community meals in the southern Wisconsin area.

  1. Diana, I recently discovered a treasure trove of training videos for a wide variety of topics…everything from songwriting, recording, mixing, etc. to mastering a finished song. It’s at http://www.groove3.com.

For $15, an “all-season” pass can be purchased which allows you to watch as many videos as you want for 30 days. A year-long pass is $150. I learned how to use my StudioOne DAW, picked up some awesome ideas for songwriting, and am currently learning how to use all the synths and virtual instruments that came with StudioOne. In addition, they have training tutorials on compressors, delay, reverb…you should check it out! (Do keep in mind that they set up a recurring monthly account that you’ll want to cancel at the end of the 30 days.)

The individual series can also be purchased – so far it costs more to buy one series than it has to watch several, though. I don’t need the videos to watch over and over…I just need to take good notes!

Last month I watched their series for my DAW – both the beginner and advanced set, as well as one for my drum program and about eight other shorter series as well. I have about 400 pages of notes. Their videos are *excellent,* and helped me immensely. Without them, I’d open up Kontakt or Reaktor’s user interface, look at all the knobs, buttons, and stuff and say, “Hmm. Now ain’t that something?” Then close it again because I was clueless as to what to do with any of it!

Oh, while I’m thinking of it, you should check out Worship the Rock’s website. They have a songwriter’s competition that just began. Entries must be submitted by June 30. First place is $2500 and a radio promo package. :) Winners will be announced at the end of August.

Praising Jesus who’s given me more fun than I ever thought humanly possible!
